H ave you tried re-newing you Subscription or Upgrading to N.I.S. 2009?

Click on the Norton Internet Security tab and tell me how many days of Subscription you have left.

hi Nemo_S - i'd be wary of using system restore as front line solution... apart from other breakages it can create, it is going to foul NIS for sure - generally make it impossible for you to either run scans or get new virus defs and may impact your subscription as well.

the expired subscription - if it was premature - has been bouncing around the forums here for a while - the most common remedy is the tool found here. the problem with the 5 gig download sounds very suspicious to me and i'd recommend a full scan with the latest defs. you might also check this post for SYMCs best practice for malware detection...

Red : reported 395 days before I ran Melodic's tool recomendation Now say's 374 which actually sound closer to what I remember it should be.

Melodic : see above and thanks to both of you .. and by the way ::

Norton Found another one on  - PC Utilities Issue #103 -Auto Cleaner Plus Anti-Virus - Portable Edition but not until after I installed and ran it it  on the USB Auto cleaner said there was an infection in startup and Norton says it's Auto cleaner that is the source of the infection, Norton says it disabled it though I didn't catch the full name just W32. something,  know of anyone that makes a real usable portable AV - it's for My kids school desk top Homework and all just like an added set of protections that is getting ridiculus school system is infectected according to some .....

Hi

I'm not sure if I understood it correctly but do you think you are clean now?

Norton Full scan says everthing is clean and so does Windows Defender which hasn't told me anything other since I got this machine, dial up seems to have some problems and I have pickup on a couple redirectors and password pages that disappeared after passwords were entered , namely my Yahoo account so am watching activity closely, also noticed Nortons file scan numbers went down from 500,000+ files scanned to less than 150,000 (132657) rather strange as I know there is at least 375,000 total files on the machine so I will wait and see  as I doubt that the machine is clean...

I can think of nothing else to do except walk the registry  which can be a bear ..

Thanks for the responce though,

~Nemo~

If your interested I went through the log files and found the name of the Virus : W32.Scribus, I cannot find this name anywhere within the Norton or Mcafee Virus Names ...

Does anyone followup on post here to test for such that maybe now a new one is in the wild or does it need to be sent somewhere else ??
