Thanks Stu,
I did do a search, sadly that thread did not show up. So, this isn't important. I spent days with email support, downloading, removing, reloading. :-( Boy I searched several ways and kept coming up with the same threads, that had no solution.
So, with the ccSvcHst not a concern, what concerns me now is how long it takes for Norton to load.. 7 minutes. While it is loading, I am not able to open programs. (please note before last reinstall, took 35-40 seconds for NIS to load). Any thoughts on the slowness of NIS loading now?
Just a side note for Symantec, I think there needs to be some clear communication with the email support staff, getting them up to snuff with the ccsvchst issue, it would be nice if no other users had to go through what I did this past week. It would have been so sweet if I would have had been told that from the get go, I wouldn't be here now with a computer slower then molasses. dang!
So maybe there is an easy fix to the slow factor now :-)
My system is Windows XP Home, svc pack 3. NIS is 15.5.0.23
Thanks again Stu
Hello,
I am a pretty frustrated long time Norton user. I have been trying to stop the ccsvchst error I get during shut down. Has anyone out there had this issue and resolved it? Is this something that simply is not going to go away and I need to go find another Internet Security provider? I have spent 10 days trying to resolve this issue through email with Symantec. I just removed and reloaded 3rd time and still have the error message and now takes 7 minutes for NIS icon to show up on my taskbar. Grrrr. Sorry if I am a little short and upset, but alot of time with no result.
Thank you
Frustrated 10 year Symantec customer.
Good morning Everyone,
Oh boy, I have now received an email response from Symantec Email Support. Before I do what they recommend, finding out that my issue ccsvchst is not a serious issue, do I need to do the steps below? Any help would be so appreciated. Thank you. Cheryl.
I understand that the issue was not resolved after following the recommended solution (s). I will do my best to assist you with a resolution.
This issue can also occur if some other programs have conflict with Norton program. To resolve this issue I suggest that you start your computer with Symantec and Microsoft services and check for the issue. To do so, please click on the URL provided below and follow
Title: 'How to start your computer with only Symantec and Microsoft services loading'

If starting the computer with Symantec and Microsoft services resolves the issue, then this issue can be caused due to program conflict. In order to resolve this issue, you have to disable the conflict programs services from the computer start-up.
In order to find out which program is causing the conflict, I suggest that you follow the instructions provided below:
1. Click on Start > Run.
2. In the command line, type 'msconfig' and click on OK.
3. Click on the Startup tab.
4. Please deselect all the programs and click on OK.
5. Restart your computer. You would be starting your computer with minimal background applications.
6. Run Msconfig again.
7. In the Startup tab, select five programs and enable only the Symantec startup items and any other item that points to any of the Symantec program folders and then restart the system. Check to see if you get the error message or the same issues mentioned before.
8. Follow the processes again and select another five programs.
9. If you receive the error message or the issues mentioned before, then you may need to follow the same procedure on individual programs in the set of five programs in which you found the issue.
After determining the program that is causing the conflict, I suggest that you disable it from startup.
Per the thread that Stu referenced, does the message eventually go away during shutdown, or do you have to terminate it? The start-up delay is probably a different issue and should be addressed seperately, probably using the suggestions the customer support has provided to isolate the problem.
Hello Reese, since the final unistall/reinstall, the message goes away on its own. Before the last reinstall, sometimes I would have to terminate it. I have not had to terminate yet.
My computer was not slow until the final reinstall of NIS 2008. So the instructions they gave me are to hopefully resolve the slowness issue? I'm sorry I am doubting, it has just been a hard road & taking up so much of my time. I will do the steps tomorrow & report back to the board, with hopefully wonderful news that I have my computer back. I would love to have a green solution next to my thread!
Thanks again Reese
Cheryl
Hi Reese & Stu,
Well, I followed the steps that Norton Email Support. I could not find a program that was causing the conflict, however the good news is, my computer is no longer slower on start up, back to 7-10 seconds for full start up. I wish I knew what it was so that others could benefit.
I'll be fast at work tomorrow, so that will be the real test, I'll give one more report tomorrow evening to confirm that all is well.
I am getting the ccSvcHst error once and awhile during shut down, just a fast flash and it goes away. So I ain't even worrying about that one!
I do wish I would have started here first, verses starting with Norton Email Support. I really appreciate your assistance. I will start here first in the future, if ever needed. This is the first time in 10 years so hopefully it will be another 10 years.
Thank you for all of your help, I will post one more time tomorrow night, after finishing up a days worth of work to confirm that all is still well, in the event any user in the future seeks information on ccSvcHst and slow down after NIS.
Everyone have a good night
Cheryl
I too wish we knew what fixed the slow start-up issue, but I’m also glad to hear that your problems are resolved.
Hi Reese,
I know, it would have been nice to pass on the knowledge here if anyone else has the same type of issue. Oh well.
I did have to "end program" for the ccSvchst.exe May I assume that is okay as well?
It sure is nice to have my computer back to its young self.
Thanks Reese
Cheryl
You shouldn’t have to End Program ccSvcHst. If ccSvcHst consistently fails to shut down before that warning box finishes, we should look into it some more.
Hi Reese,
Ah shoot, dang. Well I had to power off 3 times today due to some nasty thunderstorms. 2x I had to click the end program.. I'll do some shut downs tomorrow after working, to see what happens. Oh well.
Thank you so much Reese, have a good night.
Cheryl
It would be interesting to find out if there was some activity that you are doing that proceeds these events. I suspect that if you just start your machine and shutdown right away you won’t see this problem.
Well funny you should say that. since reading your message, I have started testing. If I power up and then power down, no problem. So I tried running several programs, several ie windows, etc etc. I got the message at shut down, with needing to end program. I am now working on isolating the program, it may take me a few days. So it appears that perhaps there is still a program in conflict with my NIS? Any thoughts on what might be the culprite? Is my computer safe from attacks with this issue going on do you think?
Thanks Reese, appreciate your assitance very, very much.
Cheryl
You’re safe. I suspect that one of the scanning threads got “stuck” scanning a web page or other file and is preventing the proper shutdown. You may also wish to look in task manager before you shut down to see if there is any particular process taking a lot of time just prior to you shutting down.
Hi & Welcome
maybe this thread is helpfull?
You see you are not the only one. Otherwise the search engine in this forum is also great
