Thank you for the reply, I have managed to resolve the problem now.

I didn't get any error messages, the problem was that when running Fix Now or Live Update it indicates that no updates are available.  I resolved this by downloading and running PIUpdate tool, and then rerunning Live Update again.

Glad you found that tool and that it worked for you!

I’ve received an email on the 18/08/08 saying (EXPIRATION NOTICE: Your Norton subscription has expired, You are no longer protected against the latest Internet threats.  Upgrade to our leading protection and performance with Norton 360™ Version 2.0.).  When in fact I still have 210 days remaining‏ on my current version of Norton Internet Security 2008.

And now since this email I’m no longer receiving any Live Updates for my Norton Internet Security 2008.

I am now being prompted to fix and run Live Update as my product is out of date and I am venerable to threats.  But every time I run Live Update it skips it (without receiving any error messages) and says that my product is up to date, when in fact I haven’t received any updates since the 14/08/08.

I have tried reinstalling Live Update using the removal/clean up tool on the website and then running Live Update again, but the problem is still happening.

Please help me.

Maybe you've received this e-mail as you've probably registered a trialware version before. Just ignore the e-mail in this case, as you have a valid subscription, with more than 200 days remaining, so you should be able to receive updates. Use windows run command and type luall to run LiveUpdate in detailed mode. Now you should be able to see what is the exact error.
