If your current version is 10.2.0.30, then you definitely have version 2007 installed. The current 2008 version is 15.5.x.x.
2008 has black background, Home Networking, it's Norton toolbar includes "Identity Safe". 2007's main screen has blue background. :))
You can download NIS 2008 from here.
It’s advisable to upgrade. Just as the program tells you to
Thanks Vejdin.
Stu - Yes I know it’s advisable to upgrade as the program tells me, but wouldn’t you find it strange to be told to update to NIS 2008 when that is what you ordered, paid for, and thought you had installed 6 months ago.
Why would Symantec send me an old outdated version in the first place? Did they have a bunch of 2007 models setting around that they wanted to clear out for the 2008 models?
Did you get a CD then? Or a download? And it was direct from Symantec?
And you definitely downloaded it from Symantec's own website and not via some other link? Did you by any chance already have NIS 2007 installed? Perhaps the download did not install properly -- it should have removed the earlier version as part of the installation.
You can download the latest verions of NIS2008 and use it for the duration of your existing licence from:
New NIS: Click on this link New NIS
If you feel that you have lost out on not having NIS2008 from the time of your download get in touch with Customer Support and explain what happened and you may find that they will sort out the expiry date for your subscription.
NOTE -- edited to add text that I posted in the wrong place ... hopefully it makes sense here!
I downloaded it directly from Symantec's website. They had a special on NIS 2008. I don’t even think they had NIS 2007 listed then.
My laptop came with a trail subscription of Symantec Client Security. When it expired I uninstalled it and ordered NIS 2008.
I don’t think I missed out on too much. I was just trying to figure out what copy I had. It would be nice if you could click on ‘About’ and it would tell you 2007, 2008, or whatever and not just Version whatever, at least for some of us.
Thanks for everyone's help.
You can get an indirect clue by looking at the copyright dates in Help / About since my NIS2008 includes 2008 in the range of dates. But that’s not infallible I’m sure.
