You should be able to turn off Norton protection if you are logged in as an administrator on the machine. You can run system restore after disabling Norton protection. However, you might see some problems with Auto-Protect after doing a system restore. If you do, you can try running LiveUpdate manually multiple times (and rebooting in between if needed) until there are no more updates available for you on the server. If this doesn't work, you can try following the instructions at http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/0/27cf89f4b70ff176882571e900729f42?OpenDocument for fixing the problem.
Well here we go again. Now having another new issue with NIS 2008. The problem is that I cannot sucessfully run any system restore procedures on Vista. And the problem seems to be that NIS will not allow me to disable or turn off the “Turn on protection for Nortan products” setting. Whenever I click to uncheck the box and hit apply or Ok it automatically resets the check back to ticked and closes. Then when I reopen it is of course checked and nothing but an endless loop until I’m blue in the face. What the heck is going on here and why isn’t NIS allowing me to disable this? System restore always fails if this setting is ticked no matter what. So how can I get this setting disabled now without having to uninstall and reinstall NIS all over again. This is the third issue I’ve had with the NIS 2008 product. The 2nd issue I was able to completely resolve buy not installing and using the addon pack. The first issue I gave up on. And now this the worst issue by far. Any help to fix this without having to go threw all that trouble of uninstalling and reinstalling would be greatly appreciated. As I need to run system restore to restore my PC back to a point earlier today, however at this time I cannot restore to any previous point due to the way NIS 2008 seems to block system restore whenever that option is used.
hi free - sorry to hear about your hat trick... is it possible that whatever is leading you to run System Restore has corrupted your Windows user account. it might account for the behavior that you are seeing, although i'd expect it to be greyed out if the permission levels were inadequate for the option. you might try running through AutoFix on the off chance it finds a problem.
i'm having trouble thinking about what dependency process protection technology would have besides permissions...
sorry not to have something more solid.
