Hi,
A few days ago I made stupid decision: I decided to upgrade NIS 2008 to NIS 2009. And after performing an upgrade propblems appeared.
First of all explorer.exe (together with task manager) hangs very often. Additionally explorer.exe occupies about 50% of CPU time.
The second thing I realized was that I have very limited access to the C drive - simply I cannot even create a folder or save a file there!
On the Symantec's site I read an articlewhich describes that in a case of problems with upgrade I need to use Norton Removal Tool to uninstall properly the propduct. I downloaded this tool but I had problem with running it. I mean I executed the package I have received and it was presented on the list of processes (Norton Removal Tool and SymNRT.exe processes) but nothing happened after that. By some coincidence (I still cannot reporoduce hao I did it but I restarted expoler.exe a few times) after a few day of fighting the Norton Removal Tool's window appeared and I was able to choose removing all the Norton products (only one - NIS 2009).
Theoretically all the Symantec products were removed but the explorer.exe still behaves the same way: 50% of CPU time is used by the process and the process hangs, access to C drive is limited.
The procedureof removing Norton Internet Security is saying that theNorton Removal Tool should be executed again after running it succesfully for the first time. Of course the problem is that after running it again nothing happens: no window, no process activity. nothing. I cannot even see that the processes (Norton Removal Tool/SymNRT.exe) are doing something.
So the question is what should I do now: is there any command line version of the Norton Removal Tool?, is there any log file created by the tool just to see where it hangs?
On the other hand how to unblock the access to the C drive?
Last but the most important thing - how to remove completely the THING just to make computer work as previously.
I'm using Vista Home Premium and no other anti virus/spyware tools are running on the machine.
Any help is very welcome,
Regards,
Wojtek
