NIS 2009 and connection failure after update to v16.5.0.135

This isn't a request for help, but I thought it might be either helpful or interesting to some of you.

 

 I have had Norton Internet Security 2009 since Nov 2008. It's been problem-free until yesterday when I got an update to the latest version, 16.5.0.135, following which I was unable to connect to the Internet at all. I could hear the modem dialling out and then, when dialling was complete, I heard that tiny little noise you get when the connection is terminated for any reason.
After some rather bad language and a lot of thinking, I had a look at Device Manager to see if the modem was working properly. It was. I then had a look at the modem 'Properties' and under the 'Advanced' tab, the country was set to 'United States'. I changed it to 'United Kingdom' and that solved the problem.
I have no idea how the country came to be set as 'US', I can only conclude that NIS had done it as I hadn't made any changes at all and had gone online solely to get that update.

 

I imagine that US users won't be affected by this, but it could affect people elsewhere. On the other hand, it might just be me!
