I have recently installed NIS 2009. Have also been a long time user of Ghost for Disk backup and restore (with NIS 2008).
Now, when I restore a Ghost disk image, NIS 2009 ceases to function properly. The AV and Spyware functions get turned off, and I receive a red "Fix now" prompt, followed by the One-Click fix popup, which recommends dowloading and installing new virus definitions. Clearly NIS has been corrupted in some fashion. Interestingly enough, the same problem occurs after using Windows Complete PC Backup and Restore (not System Restore). Here is a crisper scenario description:
- Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit system running with NIS 2009 and Ghost 14 installed
- Run Ghost Independent set backup of currently active OS partition (or alternatively Windows Complete PC backup)
- Shutdown and then boot Ghost recovery CD (or boot Vista install DVD with Complete PC Restore)
- Restore partition from image created above
- Reboot system, restart Vista and receive a variety of NIS errors descibed above
- Deinstall (using removal tool) all Norton Software, re-install and repeat all of the above
I've spoken to Symantec support, and unfortunately there was no resolution. Have also read the entries about System Restore...but this would appear to be significantly different (and tamper prevention is not an available option on 64-bit Vista).
If anyone has had similar (or contradictory) experiences and ideas, I would appreciate hearing...thanks.
