Hi Whiskey14,
Welcome to the forum. Can you be more specific about what is not working? The Guest account with it's default limited user rights can view but NOT change any configuration related to NIS. The Guest account should also be able to initiate scans, etc.
Allen
Hi Allen,
Sorry, thought it was 2009, it's actually 2010.
NIS 10 does'nt respond at all when i click on desktop icon, works fine on Admin. acct. I also noticed that (Services in Admin. Tools,Control Panel) will not allow Stopping and restarting of NIS 10, to check and see if that will resolve problem. Does not load Icon in task bar, also does not load NIS 10 in Start,Programs menu when I reinstall.Something is preventing NIS 10 from working. All other programs are working fine.I also noticed when I right click on any program,NIS 10 scan will work.I am aware of limited capabilities of guest acct. In this case, there are none at all.
TIA,
Whiskey14
Hi Whiskey14,
Thanks for the update and thank you for clarifying your version of NIS as I was going to suggest later on that you update to 2010 version.
Do all the anomalies you described only happen when logged on with the Guest account? Please confirm. By the way stopping and starting services related to NIS definitely would not be allowed with the Guest account.
The Guest account may be corrupted. Please try to create another Guest account with the same user profile configuration as the normal Guest account and see if you observe the same anomalies.
Thanks
Allen
Hi Allen,
Yes, I agree with corruption of guest acct.I created another guest acct. almost a year ago, guest acct.#2. I named it (guest's).It functions well. All anomalies only occur on guest acct.
TIA,

Hi Whiskey14,
Thanks for the update. I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as only the default Guest account is having the problem. I'll look around for a way to safely rebuild the Guest account if you like. Unfortunately it cannot be deleted (at least not in a way supported by MS), only disabled and re-enabled.
Allen
Hi Whiskey14,
After quite a bit of searching I ran across the following article which indicates that it will rebuild the Guest account.
The link is: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/8212
Please note that I cannot endorse this procedure since I have never tried it for myself. Microsoft really makes this kind of thing tougher than it needs to be by not supporting the ability to delete the guest account, my opinion of course.
Personally I think you are just as well to leave the default Guest account disabled and use the new Guest account you created when needed since you have ascertained this one works properly.

Hi Allen,
Sure would appreciate it if you can find a way to rebuild the Guest account. BTW, thanks for your help and time on this matter and to top it off, very fast in reponding. Wish there were more people like you!
Thanks again,
Whiskey14

Hi Whiskey14,
Thanks for the update and you are very welcome. It sounds like the link worked to resolve the corruption in the Guest account.
Again, thank you for letting us know.
