I find that NIS 2009 is frequently running scans of my files, typically -- and loudly -- taking up about 50% of my CPU. I've unsuccessfully tried to find ways to discontinue or at least pause this activity or even restrict which files/drives/partitions are scanned but have found no controls to allow me to do that. Definitions downloads happen at least once a day and often more than that.
I have a Dell 9100 with XP (SP3) computer with 500 gig HD, 6 MB RAM, 3.19 GHz. I am not running any other security software. I've tried to get NIS to run in "silent mode," but that doesn't help. I've been unable to have Norton Ghost (14.0) to do a full backup, I assume because of these frequent scans.
Is 2010 any better? This is getting so annoying, I'm on the verge of uninstalling NIS and simply going with another product, which I hate to do as I've used and trusted Norton products since Windows 3.0 some 20 years ago.
