I have just bought 2 new Dell Vostros running Vista with NIS 2009 pre-installed. The only programs I have installed are Office 2007, Firefox and Thunderbird. I have set up a short cut to our manufacturing control program, a Foxpro database program which resides on the server.
Both machines crash when trying to run the program across the network. This happens after clicking the Vista allow box. This happended even with all options in NIS disabled so that it shouldn't be doing anything. The crash even kills task manager. About the only thing I can do is look at the hard drive. A hard power downis required to restart the computers.
To confirm I tried the program in safe mode and all was OK. The final proof was to uninstall NIS 2009. Everything now works correctly.
I have now installed Avast.
