I am new to this so, I hope someone can help me.
I have Installation problem with NIS2009. I have a Dell Laptop 1512-100B, with Vista Home Premium Sp1, 32 Bit (preinstalled NIS2008). It has been working fine for over a year. Subscription expires in July. I got a message last week that the liveupdate failed.. I tried manually and it failed again. Rebooted and tried again. Still failed. Error code LU1812. Followed through on directions from Norton including permission to update to NIS2009 which supposed clearup some 2008 issues. That's when the trouble started. NIS 2009 uninstalled NIS 2008. However, at the end of the installation after installing most of the software and virus definitions and doing a scan, I get a message that an error in network device driver and installation stops. It then goes through an uninstall and compresses the error codes. It was suggested that even if this was done, I should use the Norton Removal Tool more than once to clean the system and reboot. I tried the installation with NIS 2009 again. No luck, same messages.
I turned off Windows Firewall and Defender (I was told they would be turned off by the install). Again, I used Norton Removal tool and again and tried another installation attempt. Same problem.
I even tried reinstalling 2008 and just Norton antivirus 2009. No luck. I checked the problems feature in Vista and I see the following error reports:

I put windows firewall and defender back on temporarily while this problem is sorted out. Obviously, there may have been other problems after this one, but the install never got past this one. Anyone have a clue?
Another question, Will a Windows Restore to an earlier date do the trick and will it bring back the NIS 2008 that was uninstalled? I undersand the LU1812 error if it reoccurs, is easier to resolve.
Please advise.
