NIS 2009 much longer scan times

"Funny business that goes on at the start.."  You mean the memory and loaded processes scanning in the very begining?  This is a manual Full System Scan right?  Is your system power settings not coming into play here (think we asked that before but just refreshing here)?

To rule out the possiblity of malware affecting this, can you download Malwarebytes AntiMalware and scan with it?

Please download MalwareBytes' AntiMalware from this LINK . Choose the free version as this does not have a real time scanner that will interfere with Norton products. Install the program and update the definitions.

Boot into Safe Mode:
Start your system and tap the F8 key until the Advanced Options Menu appears. Using the arrow keys, select Safe Mode (no networking or command prompt) and press ENTER.

Once Safe Mode is loaded, run a full scan with MBAM. Have the program fix / delete whatever it finds and make a log file. Please post the log file contents back here for review.

Hi.

Will try the scan when I get home. If it's done before bed time I'll post it later of first thing Tues.

As for the funny business , yes I do mean that !

Not sure I understand fully about "your system power settings not coming into play here (think we asked that before but just refreshing here)?", especially the into play bit.Since last Friday night I set them "Always on" .

Thanks once again.

Couldn’t find a way to ‘attach’ the file so i’ve resorted to copy & paste.
Everything went well. I had no problems with your instructions and the whole run took just over an hour.
Looks like nothing nasty thankfully.

As always many thanks for your help and support.

Well it looks like no Malware any way so I've had two thoughts. I'm going to set my trust level back to normal and then try two things:

1) I'll scan different parts of my C drive and see it the problem is just with one particular part.

2) I've enlarged a partition on my external drive to 30 GB so I can take an NG9 copy of it. I'll scan that and see if there is A similar problem.

Hopefully something will appear.

I have just come back from holiday and tried a few things out.

After the repartitioning my drives are now

Internal        C 30GB

                    F 30GB

External      H 30 GB

                    I  50 GB

A full system scan took 9 hours and 15 mins.

I scanned each drive individually and

C Drive took 4 house and 33 mins

F drive took < 6 mins

H drive took 1 House and 41 min

I Drive took < 2min

So in total all 4 took , 6 hours and 22 min. Which means I'm missing 2 hours and 54 mins .

So can any one tell me what the full system scan does that my for scans don't do ?

By the way. I've set that trust level thing to full , so it scans all.

Interestingly enough, my H drive is a clone of my C drive !!!
