I run NIS 2009 on a XP SP3 laptop and don't like to leave it running for long periods of time so I frequently check the CPU Usage screen to see if Norton has finished all it's idle background jobs so I can put my laptop in standby or hibernation.
I've frequently noticed that Norton is obviously doing other background jobs besides the ones listed in the CPU Usage screen.
For example, the screen lists that Norton ran a job at 12:04 PM today for a duration of 1:27. Yet the CPU usage indicator, indicates that Norton was using about 80% CPU from about 12:10 to 12:35 PM. This time doesn't match up with any of the list background processes.
Likewise Norton was using about 20% CPU and thrashing the disk for about 5 minutes at around 12:40 PM which does't match up to any background job.
What is Norton doing during these periods of high activity that don't correspond to listed jobs?
