Hi Codydog,
IE8 is still in BETA and has issues. It has not been released as a finished browser. Please check this link which describes just some of the problems.
Hope this helps.
EDIT: Looks like Dieselman743 has a faster keyboard than I do! At least you got two opinions at once.
I updated NIS 2008 to NIS 2009 a few days ago and although the process was easy and NIS 2009 works well, I am having a problem.
IE 8 seems to crash intermittently. When I check the log, I find
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: iexplore.exe
Application Version: 7.0.6001.18000
Application Timestamp: 47918f11
Fault Module Name: IVPlugin.dll
Fault Module Version: 2009.0.0.104
Fault Module Timestamp: 48b77d6f
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 0002345f
OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.256.6
Locale ID: 1033
Additional Information 1: fd00
Additional Information 2: ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160
Additional Information 3: fd00
Additional Information 4: ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160
As the Fault Module appears to be a Symantec item, I am wondering if there are soltuions of fixes I can apply.
Thanks
[edit: corrected thread title .]
Sorry, I mis-spoke, its IE 7
pc is a Vista SP! fully updated, NIS 2009 is also fully updated.
Please disregard ie8 comment.
People seem to be having probelms with N.I.S. 2009 just now, so this may be another bug, if it really is I.E. 07.

Yep I think it is, here's the version number from earlier!
Application Version: 7.0.6001.18000
It is IE7 and this has happened 5 times in the last 2 days. It becomes very disruptve as it crashes all my open windows, usually 4 or 5 tabs, and freezes content in each, eg, a chart or data table.
Can Symantec employees comment on this? Is there a work around? Solution?
Honestly speaking you shouldnt be using IE. Only use Firefox or Opera. Have you tried running IE without adds ons?

Why is that? I am using I.E. 07 and it is working without Problems; it is made for I.E. 07 and other Versions of I.E.. Users, including myself, are having problems with N.I.S. 2009 which are clearly bugs that were not Resolved/pick-up in the Beta.
Hi Codydog,
Open the NIS 2009 main window. Go to Internet > Settings and scroll down to Smart Firewall. Go to Program Control and click "Configure". You will see a list of programs, scroll to Internet Explorer. Be sure it is set to "Auto" or "Allow".
Are you running any third party toolbars?
Then to take a suggestion from Dieselman743, in IE click Tools > Manage add-ons. Try disabling them one at a time to identify which one may be causing the crash.
Let us know how you do as I am not having any issues with NIS 2009.
EDIT: I just noticed that your fault module is Norton Confidential. Be sure the Phishing Filter in IE is OFF.
Hi,
1. IE is set to Auto
2. No toolbars, not even Nortons
3. Add-on are normal ones - by Adobe, Symantec and Sun
4. IE Phishing Filter is Disabled
A google search indicates this was a prior problem as well but was supposed to be fixed-
http://norton.lithium.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_pb&thread.id=257
I know its the weekend, but I am hoping to fix it by Monday!
Any help available here?
I wish Symantec would seperate the wish list threads, the how do i buy threads etc from the threads where help is being asked for in a polite way. The current protocol just buries posts like mine with non-NIS issue posts.
Relax. Like I said use Firefox. Its a million times safer. Have you tried uninstalling IE 7 then reintalling? Do you have all the latest Windows Updates?
Don't use firefox and IE is fully up to date and patched
But, this is clearly a Symantec issue not IE, so dont see the point of discussing ie v firefox
Symantec, can you step up here or not? Its a fair question as its your dll.
D.man: WHy are you such against I.E.? Some users are very happy with I.E. installed on their system; Norton 2009 is made for I.E. so there is not need to suggest another Web Browser.
This is obviously a bug which was not found in the Beta and I assume that symantec will fix this in the coming month(s).

Are you kidding me?
IE is in BETA stage. That's probably the problem right there...
But hey blame Norton if it makes you feel better.

Hello CassilineKnight,
The Poster later changed this to I.E. 07 if you read the First Page. :)
Codydog,
We would like to get more information. Does this happen on random sites or can you narrow this down to a particular site? Also, will you help us provide more information? If you willing to help a support agent can contact you and get the necessary information needed for us to troubleshoot your problem.
Iām happy to provide you with whatever info you want. How do you suggest we proceed/

In my NIS 09, there is Internet> Settings and you click on settings and there is not a Program Control to configure. I'm unable to adjust to my prefreses. I have programs that I do not use and they have not business connecting which I see they are. Which is what led me to this post. Help!
I have Windows XP, SP3, IE7, NSW 2008, NIS 2009( as of 8 hours ago, most of that has been unable to connect to the internet or anything else.) But finally back on and would sure appreciate the advice. Thanks.
