Hoping I can get this posted before someone else tries to help. I found my answer.
Great, Grace.
Would you share the answer with the rest of us?

I hate to admit it ,as its so embarrassing. But I am just learning to navigate around and check every thing it has to offer. I continued to look for a way to adjust the settings of the firewall. I couldn't find it. Well reading here I continued to check and I saw a sliver peeking out and that was when I realized I could scroll down. I believe that just informed you all I'm NOT the sharpest crayon in the box! I learn from just reading the posts. You all are doing a great job.
Keep up the great work!
As a follow up to a previous suggestion, I was having problems with IE7 on Windows Vista freezing using NIS09 16.0.0.125, and using the advice on this thread changed my Smart Firewall Trust Control setting for IE from default “auto” to “allow” and have not had a problem since. Thank you Phil_D for some very good advice.
Seems this has happened before.
Here is the problem report. Can Symantec please fix it. Thanks

CodyDog, earlier in this thread you were working with abhay_kulkarni, did you ever get that worked out?
I gave him the requested info and never heard back.
I also talked to Symantec online help who basically uninstalled and then re-installed NIS 2009, so unless this dll is routinely corrupted, the problem may not be with me.
Not sure if my needs require a higher level Symantec product, but I hesitate to start buying and using stuff which is new to me due to the learning curve involved. Hopefully, you can address the problem in a timely basis and advise me how to proceed.
Thanks.

Please stop with the ads for Firefox, it's no better than IE7. I have tried every incarnation of Firefox since it's inception and I'm still looking for this big speed increase. I've never seen it. In fact, Firefox takes longer to load and takes three times as long to go from the desktop icon to my home page. The only thing Firefox does faster is open multiple tabs at once, which I never do.
I am using IE7 with NIS 2009 and am having no problems with crashes at all.
What version of Firefox did you try? Firefox does take longer to load but surfing and web pahe loading is quicker then IE7. Also there is a Firefox tweak program which makes it even faster. Do these crashed happen with IE 8?
As I said, I have tried every version of Firefox that has been released, and shortly thereafter, deleted them all. I'm sorry for the rant, but it just hits a nerve when I keep seeing "don't use IE"", don't use Outlook", and even "Don't use Windows" from the Linux crowd.
If NIS 2009 is crashing IE7, then something else is involved besides just those two things because I have no problem running the two together.
Well my Aunt uses NIS 2009 with IE7 and no issues what so ever.
All,
We were looking for crash dumps to investigate this problem which we just received. We have the information necessary to investigate the problem now. We will target fixing this defect in an upcoming NIS patch.
Another crash-

I've been having a strange problem with IE 7 and NIS 2008, if I download a file, could be any file and I close IE7 during the download process I get a IE error, everytime. It seems to be tided with officeav.dll, thats a norton file if I am not mistaken.

Here is the strange part, if I don't close IE, it doesn't give me a error, but the second I do, when the file gets to 99% done it, gives me a error.
I've tried reinstalling norton since then, but it didn't fix the problem.
so far my only fix is don't close IE, when I download something.
And, again…

Codydog, Thanks for the information and it sounds like Abhay has what he needs. I think that we have enough posts with crash information. All of the items that you’ve provided here indicate IVPlugin.dll with an offset of 2345f. If you get another occurance with a different module or offset, please provide that.
I'm wondering how this fix is going - I'm getting 1 or 2 crashes a day here. Its kinda taking on a bit of urgency for me.
Can you please update us.
Thanls
Hi
I'm with Codydog
I've had that many IE7 crashes in the last few weeks...
I'm Now Convinced - NIS 09 is causing at least some of them
Re : Different Types Of IE7 Crash
1/ A web page takes forever to load
Normally... They load within 2 seconds
2/ A web page starts to load - Then... IE7 Completely Freezes
Sometimes..
Waiting approx 15 minutes .. IE7 will eventually Un-Freeze
If I try to click.. Home or Exit... " IE7 Has Stopped Responding "
I'm constantly having to use - Task Manager to close down IE7
This has happened approx 10 times in the last 2 weeks
* 3/ Sometimes...
I open IE7 ... It says - Connecting ... Then it takes 10 to 20 minutes before my Home Page appears
When my Home page finally does appear...
Sometimes the NIS 09 Toolbar is missing
Also..
It's as though there are two IE7 .. One on top of the other.
I have to Exit - IE7 .. Then open it again ... Before I can use it
Yesterday I Installed Firefox
And although I've Not had any Firefox Crashes - Yet! ...
I have noticed something that indicates NIS 09 is the cause of the browser problems.
RE : *
Every now and again .. When I open - Firefox...
Something Similar to my IE7 Opening problem... Is happening with Firefox
Firefox will take 10 to 20 minutes to open
Normally... Firefox opens instantly.
Why Do I Think NIS 09 Is Causing These Browser Problems?
I've noticed both browsers seem to have problems opening...
When the computer has been left idle ... And NIS 09 has been doing a job of some sort.
Example.. Quick Scan, Updates, etc.
If the browsers are opened and closed within 10 minutes ... Then Open Fine!
