I suggest you should defragment your disk and clean up any temporary files (use Windows Disk Defragmenter and Disk Cleanup for this purpose). Also be sure that you don’t have a second firewall and antivirus program installed. You can turn off Windows Firewall too, providing that you use NIS (not NAV). If you have a spyware program installed that’s running in the backgroung, it would be better if you turn off it’s real time protection (to increase performance), and just use the manual scan feature.
Took a few day but NIS 2009 now seem to be more responsive, and my system is no longer locking up. On a couple programs that I "Allow this time" I still see a definite delay in the window popping up to make me choose. Do'nt know why this is, never had this delay with NIS 2008 the control window would launch quickly.
This is still an issue, definitely happens especially when Firefox gets an update, or I choose to allow a program "this time"
Apparently I must have a bad install, since I received a few error messages when I downloaded NIS 2009, and did the install over NIS 2008. I am going too purchase a new version shortly since my subscription runs out in a month...now my question, should I dump my old version of Ghost, and just install Norton 360 in place of Ghost & NIS ?
It’s a balancing act. You may not like the “set and forget” of 360 if you like to tinker, but you will have an updated version of Ghost. It is going to depend on what is most important to you. There have been problems with old Nvidia drivers and Ghost, so make sure drivers are updated.
You can run backup manually and turn off automatic backup, however, Norton 360 is less customizable and provides basic backup options and Norton Ghost is an advanced backup solution. For example, with Norton 360 you cannot backup your entire system (create disk image). Norton 360 provides file and folder backup only, and you can backup to a secure online storage - standart edition includes 2 GB of secured online storage, premier edition - 10 GB, with option to purchase more.
Time for my subscription renewal went to uninstall NIS2009 using Add/Remove programs, uninstall errored out... "missing files!!!"
This confirmed my initial assumption that the online upgrade from NIS2008 to NIS2009 was corrupt.
I then ran the RemovalTool, and cleaned out all the old Symantec/Norton files, and did a clean install of NIS2009 from disc....and now the program control window launches immediately...no delay, or hang-ups and NIS2009 is working as it should.
Installed my Ghost V10 ... no problems or error messages...
