Until yesterday, NIS 2009 worked perfectly on incoming mail. I have been using it for about 4 months. Yesterday I noticed something was wrong. The download indicator in Eudora seemed stuck as if someone was sending me a humongous file. I finally closed Norton and checked my mail server’s webmail for my accounts to see if there was some big file clogging up the works. There wasn’t anything. I finally just turned off the email component (15 minute default) and the mail from about a half dozen email accounts just flew in. I turned the mail protection back on. Now every time Eudor tries to download mail, Norton blocks any downloading until I turn off the protection. This is getting to be a pain and it’s only been doing this for less than a day. FYI,The computer is running XP

I tried your suggestion. There were 2 rules, both for outbound. I deleted them both. Closed the settings and tried to pick up mail with Eudora. It didn’t change anything. – It just hangs. I went back to the settings and found that Eudora was no longer listed in Program control – So NIS didn’t create new rules either.

Try going in to the Firewall settings and resetting the firewall.
The problem continued. I was then unable to open Norton to look at settings. I rebooted the computer. The firewall settings for Eudora were made again. The rules are only for outbound. Eudora now seems to be working okay again. I can't say this is solved until I see how it plays out over the next few days. It was however a drag not to be able to pick up email without turning NIS 2009 functions on or off, or in the last case, turning the app totally off.
