Ok Thks Right now my son has AVG installed free version , we also tried avast and antivir they all install with no problems but I really like the new 2009 Norton products so I would rather go with that.
Okay, I know this will sound silly and I know that you already uninstalled Zone Alarm, but was any other antivirus program or firewall program on the computer at the same time as, or before, Zone Alarm was? You've mentioned so many AV products that I got to wondering how many of them your son had had previously and if any might have been left in place. And, again, I am also including anti-spyware (such as Spybot Search & Destroy) and anti-adware (such as AdAware).
Hello I have not installed Zone Alarm just those 3 I mentioned and they were all installed and uninstalled completely. There was nothing running together . The help and support supplies me with definitions and such on the Terminal Services ,nothing out of the 30 results shows me to enable.
Any other things?
Thks
What I am wondering is why these 3 other Antivirus programs can be installed and not NAV?
The newer Norton Security Products are more sophisticated yet lighter on system resources than other brands, therefore they require a different set of Windows services.
It is extremely unusual for Terminal Services to be absent from a Vista computer. In the future you may find other applications which fail to run without it, therefore I would put every effort into resolving why Terminal Services is not listed in your Services Panel.
Hi Ok here is what I have found, I did not do the install of Vista personally ,the machine was bought with Vista installed and it seems this person had used vlite to cut some of Vista's offerings. So that is why my son is missing all this stuff. I tried the sp1 install and it fails at the end.
I was thinking since I have an original Vista Ultimate dvd which was bought only after my son's machine was made that I could use it to upgrade his machine is that possible?
I know this is a Norton forum but would appreciate some input ,maybe someone had a similar problem.

Ok Here is an update I was trying to upgrade this morning but the dvd kept giving me an error I did this last night and once this morning after many tries I looked on net for missing file.
I needed a missing update file ,I got that ,put the dvd back in and clicked on upgrade it went through 6 restarts and 2 and a half hours install .
I was surprised it went without any problems I just kept an eye on what it was doing .
I got to desktop after all this and did an update ,WOW, 54 updates with some optionals(6) in there.
This took another hour and all went smooth.A restart was done and another update check , another 15-20 mins of about 7 updates with extras and a few important ones.
All went well and I deleted old files did some temp clean-up and some resetting of UAC and other small things.
I wondered how all of these updates were not installed and why the (smaller) version of Vista Ultimate was used in the first place. I finally installed NIS 2009 and all went smooth through everything here basically after that initial problem with a missing update .
I did my updates for NIS and ran a scan and it found 2 spyware(low) problems and now the machine is working better. I still have to do a codec upgrade and a defrag , but that is nothing .
