NIS 2009 version 16.2.0.7 and Internet Explorer 8 = IE8 not responding (coWPPlg.dll)

Hello,

I have installed on two different computers a 30-day tria of Norton Internet Security 2009 (currently version 16.2.0.7,english).On both computers are running on Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1 (one PC is english-version, other PC german-version. All available updates for Widows are installed, also all of the updates available for NIS 2009 in version 16.2.0.7.

Both computers had no problems at all with Internet Explorer 7. Right after the update to Internet Explorer 8, while using Internet Explorer 8 and browsing through the internet, there randomly pops-up a windows-error-message "Internet Explorer is not responding" on both computers. However you can go on working with Internet Explorer after that message. It is clearly linked to a compatibility-problem between IE8 and NIS2009.

In Vista control-panel, the "Problem Reports and Solutions" shows for each time that message appears:

If I disable Antiphishing and Identity Safe in NIS 2009, this error-message does not pop-up, the coWPPlg.dll is linked to those features. I have disabled in IE8 the "SmartScreen Filter", so this could not have any influence onto the Antiphishing and Identity Safe-features of NIS 2009. There are no other add-ons loaded into IE8, nor do I have any kind of virus, that is for sure.

I had a longer tech-talk to your customer-support over Internet. (remote-control-fixing did not work as the hardware-firewall blocks this outbound-inbound connection, where I have no influence too). After a few changes in NIS2009 firewall-settings, I (and the support) thought the problem was fixed, but it was not, it kept going on with those error-messages.

Due to this, I searched for other people with the same problem, and noticed that this error-messageis very common now. I finally found out that there is an update to version 16.5.0.134, and installed that, and that really fixed the problem now.

I hope this might help other users. Finally I can buy NIS 2009, as the trial seems to work fine with this update, and therefore also the retail version.
