hey computermind, im new here so im not sure of the rules, but why does EVERYONE always add something about malwarebites to every set of posts??? good on nortons for letting a discussion to exist, but geez it seems to be the only solution for some people. arent we hear to talk about nortons stuff? just checking, TIA

Hi Egads -

 

Do you know of a *perfect* software?

 

Security software, such as NIS 2009 is superb. However, it does not protect against *everything.*

 

What you really want is a "layered approach" where different softwares cover different things.

 

NIS will evolve to the point where this approach may not be necessary.

sry- didnt mean to offend. my point isnt about layered security, its about recomending nother app on nortons forums, pushing someone elsewhere instead of finding why nortons missed it. i see like 20 threads that are ALL troubleshooting malwarbites logs and stuff. why not just go to malwarbites forums??? doesnt nortons have some ISO you can use??? i remember reading someting from Tom Lopez about it. isnt that a better solution? i use adaware and spybot with my nortons security 16.5.0.135, and that works great for me. just saying, sorry.

Here are the links for the Norton Recovery Tool, which is an ISO you can use to Scan for Viruses before bootup outside of the Windows Environment:

If you purchased the CD at a Retail Location, you can simply boot off the CD you purchased to run the same tool.

Thanks to Tim for posting those links again.

 

If I might add to his post and recommend that folks who downloaded their Norton Products should take advantage of this tool and produce a Norton Recovery Disc.

 

In the rare event that it may be needed, it's best to have this disc already on hand.

 

(Yes, I made my copy a while ago.)
