I read your post and couldn't help to laugh. So you expect Symantec and Webroot to get together and fix this problem for you. Too funny. So I guess Steve Jobs and Bill Gates should get together to work out things. I guess North Korea and South Korea should get together and make peace. I guess every software company out there that doesn't get along with other companies or there software should correct these issues. You are causing the problem not Symantec or Webroot. You are trying to run 2 real time spyware scanners. That's like running 2 anti viruses or 2 firewalls. You cannot do it. They collide. No matter what certain software doesn't get along with other software. Spy Sweeper is not all that anymore now a days. If you want a good set up then only use NIS 2009 and a free on demand spyware scanner. Malware Bytes and SuperAntiSpyware are both free and do a far better job then Spy Sweeper. If you ever tried Kaspersky they are the worst. There is a huge list of incompatibility. I will link you to Kaspersky's site cause the list os too long. What spy items does Spy Sweeper find? Cookies? Those are not spyware. If your getting infecting with spyware alot then you need to change your surfing habits. Also use Firefox.

I started to reply to this, but I think the right people have probably read my comments, so will desist.
Once again, it looks like I have stumbled upon comments here that I should just leave well enough alone, and not say anything. However, I cannot hold back how I feel on this one. These boards were created for people who use Norton products to come and address issues they are having. I, like the original poster, as well as many other people I know have ran both products in the past with NO, do you get that Mr. Dieselman (NO!!!!!) issues in the past. Granted, both Symantec and Webroot have updated their products recently, and their are NOW issues.
These boards are here for people to voice issues and get help with them. Not for someone to keep commenting over and over that the software a person runs is inferior and cannot work. Everyone has their own opinions on the software they want to run and that they feel is best. There are many people and many businesses who feel that Norton products are nothing but junk. And, there are others who feel it's a good product. The software you keep pointing out Dieselman, I am not saying it's good or bad. I have not used it. However, Spysweeper has won countless awards in the past. And, I suppose all the accredited computer and software companies that made those claims are nothing but crap either and don't know anything, with the comments you keep making.
These two programs are by far not the only programs that conflict. There are tousands of them that do. And how many times do windows updates cause issues with different programs? It happens so many times, I'm not even going there. For you to make the comments that both Symantec and Webroot should not work together to resolve the current issue, is like saying other software companies as well as microsoft should never work on problems that occur and just leave computer users paralyzed with software on their computers that may have once worked, but now leave their systems in non reliable working order. As long as there are computers, which will be from now on, there will always be new software conflicts. And, I'm sure it's a matter of time before Dieselman gets one of those on his system, then starts complaining that the issues need to be fixed.
So, with all that said, and with it just being my two cents worth on this one, I have a simple comment for Dieselman. I am by no ways saying you have never helped people here. But, the comments in your reply post in this thread are ridiculous. If you can't have something to say to help this person, other than make the comments you did, then don't say anything at all. That is putting it as nicely as I can, because believe you me, when it comes to computers, no one is an expert on everything, not even myself, and that counts you as well.
If Norton wants to throw me off the boards here, then so be it. But, I come here, sometimes with issues, and other times I may reply to try and help others. Not make the type of comments like Dieselman keeps making. I apoligize for having those feelings, but this is really getting out of hand and becoming ridiculous.
As for the original poster here, if you can, uninstall your spysweeper, and reinstall version 5.5.7.124. After that, both spysweeper and NIS 2009 can load together at startup. Make sure you wait until spysweeper and everything in your startup has finished booting. Then, go ahead and do whatever tasks you do. Since making this change, I have rebooted many, many times, and done all the tasks I do on a normal basis, with no issues at all. Give that a try and see if it works, and I apoligize for the comments you got from the other poster.
There isnt much I dont know about pc's. I built my own and I am a gamer. I have spent countless hours and years playing with different security products. I was for a period of time only using Sandboxie. No anti virus. No anti spyware. Still never infected. If I tried 2 programs and they didnt mesh well then I dumped the one I didnt need. But actually I have never encountered this cause I always use 1 anti virus with 1 anti spyware and 1 firewall. I have never needed to run 2 av's. 2 as's or 2 firewalls. Ruuning NIS 2009 along with Spy Sweeper is overkill and also called overlapping security which can actually make you more prone to infections cause you 2 programs fighting over the same piece of malware. Do some homework and you will see I am right. SuperAntiSpyware and Malware Bytes are actually programs recommened in this fourm. Watch the videos here on SAS and MBAM.

Once again, you miss the point here. If norton is so good at spyware, then why do you even bother using those scanners. Your comments are not helping anyone in this case. I made it very clear. If you have nothing to say to help people, rather than downing what they choose to run, then say nothing at all. If I keep finding comments like you made earlier, I am going to personally push to have you removed from the boards here. I am through commenting to you, and as far as saying I need to do my homework, you don’t even want to go there.
I am not arguing with you. You do not need 2 real time spyware scanners. But not every program can find everything. So having a on demand back up scanner is fine. Norton is an awesomem product but yes it can miss things. Avira is the best anti virus out there but it also can miss things. Any expert will tell you having an on demand back up scanner is perfectly fine. But running 2 real time scanners isnt nessary. Dr Web Curit is another great on demand scanner. Now if you can only use Spy Sweeper on demand then thats fine.
Hi Dieselman:
I thought I would comment. You state that we don't need ' 2 real time spyware scanners.' I would probably agree. You also stated that 'not every program can find everything."
1. I had problems with Spysweeper and NIS 09... even without Spysweeper running 'real time.' I turned off real time Spysweepers realtime protection. I even turn off NIS' 09 real time protection when I would try to start up Spysweeper to run a manual scan.. and my computer still locked up. The conflict prevents me from using Spysweeper in any fasion.
2. You agree that NIS 09 is not perfect and that another program would be good to have for manual scans. I'm not able to do that. Sure I could just ignore the issue. So what if I've paid money for spysweeper... which I can no longer use. If NIS prevents me from doing manual scans isn't that an issue? By the way, I used NIS 08 and SpySweeper together with no issues (also did not have any issues with mcafee).
I am ok/fine with not being able to run Spysweeper realtime .... if only I could do manual scans....
On a positive note... you mentioned you used sandboxie. I just started using it last week... I love it! (Previously I used vmware with a guest OS for virus testing, etc., but sandboxie is so much easier to use!).
Matthew
Hey Matt. I have actually never paid for any as program. 95% of as programs are free. I am actually going to reinstall Sandboxie with my custom rule set.
OK Guys,
Stop nagging eachother!
Let's discuss the topic.
I think you all have someting right. NIS2009 is not perfect. But no product is.
I have to agree with Dieselman that using NIS2009 with Spysweeper in real time is overkill. SW get's into your machine and could cause problems as well. What you could do is using Spysweeper on demand as a sort of second opinion. I for one run a scan every two weeks orso with a spyware scanner. But I have to admit it really never finds something nasty only cookies .
Thank you Stu.
You’re welcome although the stop nagging was also mentioned to you
Well, to show that companies can work together, I have a positive response from Webroot regarding Spy Sweeper. It is the solution posted above to backup to the earlier version, BUT, note the statement given right after the recommendation. The underline is mine:
We apologize for the inconvenience occurred in your case. Since the latest version has created problems in your computer we request you to downgrade to the earlier version 5.5.7.124 using the steps below.
Please download the cleanup tool (SSCCleanup.exe) from the link http://download.webroot.com/SSCCleanup.exe.
Click in the executable file to start the uninstallation process.
Once completed restart your computer and download the version 5.5.7.124 of the Spy Sweeper from the link
http://sales.webroot.com/downloads/registered/links/en/SpySweeper55RegSetup_1.exe
This issue will be fixed up in the next release of the Webroot Security Suite in few weeks from now.
Please note that during the re-installation of this earlier version, you will need to say, 'No, Thanks - I'll Check Later" on the Version Guard Screen (Third Screen of Installation) when it asks you if you wish to check for Program and Definition updates. By selecting this option it will ensure that you stay on the 5.5 version of our software, and Version Guard will not download and install the 5.8 version.
