NIS 2009 with Spy Sweeper 6.0

After reading previous (fairly heated) discussions on the compatibiltiy of these two programs, I am almost reluctant to post my question, but I'm hoping for current information. I have NIS 2009 on order (I do not use NIS at this time), and I presently use Webroot's Spy Sweeper (no AV), having just renewed for 2 years, 2 computers, only 1 month ago. The program has now been updated version 6.0, and I'm wondering if anyone has found the compatibilitiy issues with NIS to be resolved.

Thank you for your help.

I know how you feel LaMujer. I had NIS 2008 and used SpySweeper 5.5.7.124 with it. When Spysweeper upgraded they really really messed up on there 6.0 version. Little did I know how NIS 2009 was going to be. My Spysweeper expires 7/30/2011 so don't feel bad.

Bottom line, like Dieselman743 stated, you don't need Spysweeper anymore with the new NIS2009. I took Spysweeper off the computer. All you need is NIS 2009.

When I ran SpySweeper 6.0 with NIS 2009 there was a conflict with SpySweeper.

When I ran SpySweeper 5.5.7.124 it ran fine but all it found was the same cookies NIS 2009. In fact NIS found more.

Say goodbye to SpySweeper and Hello to NIS 2009. Sorry you lost your money on S/S like I did.:smileyhappy:

You can save the license key and use it later, am I correct? Or is it set to expire at a fixed point in time, and your subscription does not last for 1 year, rather 1 year from purchase?

If your referring to S/S license starts at date of purchase ( and downloaded to your computer). You can transfer to any computer during that time frame.  Set to expire at a fixed point in time. This is for renewing license like I did. If you buy from the box, starts when activated.

Thank you for your replies. I knew from reading the discussions about the conflicts with the earlier SpySweeper version that the consensus was to dump SS as unnecessary with NIS. Still, I had hoped to learn that the latest SS 6.0 resolved the incompatibility, just because I hated to see the money for SS lost! I had abandoned Norton products for some time, but the good reviews about speed and performance of NIS 2009 led me to try again. I hope my choice will prove to be a happy one.

No need to spend money on an antispyware program when there are 2 free programs that are better then Spy Sweeper.

Which is true, unless you are a Vegan.

LOL caught my typo. “Spy Sweeper”.

There’s aconflict between these programs; Spy Sweeper said to use version 5.8 with NIS 2009 until they issue a newer version than 6.0.  I say “ditch Spy Sweeper.”  Norton works fine as a spyware program!   I waited 50 minutes to speak with Spy Sweeper tech.  Not worth the trouble.
