Ever since we "upgraded" to NIS 2009 I've noticed processes take longer to disappear from the Task Manager after I quit applications. Sometimes they don't die at all and I have to kill them via "End Task." This happens most frequently with Firefox (firefox.exe) and Adobe Acrobat 8 (acrodist.exe, acrobat.exe, acrobatinfo.exe) but also with Outlook 2003 (outlook.exe) and Word 2003 (winword.exe).
Norton processes also like to hang and force me to restart the computer, or better yet, inhibit said restarting -- notably ccSvcHst.exe. Of course, Norton processes can't be adjusted at all in the Task Manager.
I'd ask about the NIS memory leaks, but I know better. Losing 100MB or more of virtual memory and unexplained CPU usage spikes are de rigeur since this program was installed. I should be grateful NIS 2009 lets me work at all. Eventually Symantec will figure out that only a blue screen of death -- like abstinence -- offers 100% protection.
This is some racket you guys are running. Sure beats the old mafia protection racket (for legality and efficiency, not for ethics).
