Hi NY1986,
That is the beauty of NIS 2009. You don't have to concern yourself with tweaking the firewall settings. NIS 2009 was engineered to provide you with a tremendous level of protection automatically. There is no "monitoring" required on your part. And, you will find it is "light-years ahead" of the Vista Firewall.
That is the whole idea of a great security product - to work in the background protecting you while you enjoy the other aspects of your computer.
Where did you ever read that it needs tweaking? I have never seen a thread like that.

Please tell us, NY; I am intrested to know.
And, as Phil_D said, it has all the Features in it where it run individually, for example, Phishing Protection will run every-few-hours, Pulse Updates give you up-to-the-minute Protection of Virus Definitions; you can just go away on holiday for a few weeks, leave you computer on, and everything will still be okay, although, I wouldn't advise doing this, l.o.l.! All the Background Tasks will keep you Safe - and it will even do a Full System Scan while you are not at the computer, then, when you come back, will stop, but, when your computer is Idle again, will start from where it left off. I would still do a Quick Scan every-few-days to get rid of Tracking Cookies; apart from that, there is not much you need to do.
Although, I will there were more Options for Background Tasks...
The only thing I have ever done is turn off Automatic Program Control and turn on Advanced Event Monitoring. But that’s not tweaking.

And probably isn't recommended for the OP due to the extra noise and confusion that those settings introduce.
It really doesn’t make it that much noisier. I would rather get pop ups then none. With Automatic Program on you will fail most leak tests including the GRC Leak test.
