Hello,
I upgraded from Norton 360 2009 to NIS 2010 several months ago and have been experiencing the same problem with no relief. I have Windows Vista on a Sony Laptop.
After leaving the laptop for a few moments, the "background tasks" notification appears. When I move my mouse to access anything, my computer freezes and I have to do a hard shut down holding down the power button and restart my computer. This happens daily.
I uninstalled Norton using the suggestions from the help site and reinstalled cleanly. This did not work. I changed Idle Time Scans to off. This did not work. I contacted Norton and a person with a remote on my computer tried to change some settings but this did not work. After sending a complaint about my continuing problem, a Norton rep called me and remotely scheduled a full system scan every day to try to solve the problem. A full system scan took 4 hours to complete and then the problem persists. The Norton rep was supposed to call me back today to see if this worked but he failed to call me. He told me on Friday that, if scheduling a scan did not work I would have two options: downgrade to the 2009 version or refer to Norton engineering staff.
I have had Norton products for 20 years and have never had a problem. This is very distressing and if I cannot get this resolved, I will have to uninstall and go to another product. Can anyone offer any suggestions?
Thanks,
Gary
