A problem has appeared on my laptop in which the NIS 2010 Background Tasks dialog box appears , and the PC freezes. The mouse pointer is still active - both when the touchpad is used, and if a USB mouse is used. The problem appears whether or not there is a USB mouse connected. The only way out is a hard reboot.
The problem first appeared on Thursday, 5th August.
An increase of RAM from 1GB to 2GB (on saturday 7th) has not fixed the problem.
A google search turned up this thread (which is now locked so I couldn't add on to it - hence this new topic).
My laptop is a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi1505, running Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3, so the Vista-specific help mentioned in the previous thread is not applicable, unfortunately.
I have performed three separate system restore to points prior to 5th August, but this has not fixed the problem.
I have suspected the hard drive, Windows and NIS 2010. When I found the previous thread, the only common factor was NIS 2010. However the dates of the problem commencing between the other user (March) and my machine are rather too far apart to be considered as caused by something in a recent update - or is it?
The previous thread's Originating Poster has described exactly the same symptoms as my PC suffers - but the other has different hardware and different operating system. The common factor is NIS 2010.
Can any of you offer me a way forward in diagnosing and solving this issue (aside from binning the PC of course!)
Regards,
Dave
