Thanks for the update. Can you click on the More Details button after highlighting the High Disk Usage message in NIS History? Please pass on the relevant details from this. You can also attach a screen shot of that window.
Were you then able to correlate (timewise) the High Disk Usage warning with the lockup?
How many HD's do you have?
I would recommend that you run a chkdsk c: /r so that your system drive can be checked for errors. Similarly if you have other drives please run chkdsk on them also, replacing the C in the command above with the appropriate drive letter.
When you run this on the C drive Windows will inform you that the check must be scheduled for the next computer restart. Please answer Yes to this and reboot your computer.
If you are not able to catch on screen any error messages at the end of the chkdsk operation, the results can be checked after the fact in the WIndows event logs in the Application events.
I have 1 HD on the machine and run check disk on a regular basis (3-4 times a day) as I have to power-off the laptop, as opposed to a correct shut-down, to recover from the lock-up. I should also state that the disk is 0% fragmented. The disk passes all checks and I have no reason to suppose there is an issue with it as it performs perfectly on all applications other than NIS.
Time-wise, the high usage is always reported at the point the machine locks-up, it does not occur after the power-off reboot. Watching the HD light I can see that starting an insight scan it is flashing then after 12-15 seconds it is on continuously at which point it's a lock-up condition. (Not very technical description but the best I can do as when it occurs nothing work.).
Majority of the high usage, and always reported after a lock-up, are for SVhost.exe Process ID 888. CPU, memory and handles are reported as normal and Disk read as 61MB and write as 26MB.

I see Pinman already responded to this. Earlier in the thread (much earlier) Pinman had already upgraded to NIS 2011. Titles can be misleading, details are usually important.
You can change the title any time like so. To help with a problem, you would have to read ALL the 3 pages of posts. yanks hair. One of the reasons I have computers.

Yes you can change the title which is a good thing but as you probably know this does not change the title as it appears on the list of topics from the main NIS board page.
To gain a full history you should read all 3 pages anyway.
What I’m saying is I hate computer problems in which the solution is very hard to find. A computer is like a very temperamental baby, rejecting all solutions.
I was not quite sure what the uninstallation tool refer to and whether that is the Norton removal tool. Also, after uninstallation can you search for all file named “Norton” and delete them.
Last night I left the laptop powered-up for 12 hours with Insight disabled. This morning there were no entries for excess disk usage, despite NIS doing multiple operations over night, and no issues with laptop performance when I went to use it. It does appear to be Insight related.
