NIS 2010 full scan painfully slow compared to NIS 2009 on my system

This is the 2nd time in the last few weeks I've tried using NIS 2010, with the same painfully slow results.

I ran the removal tool in safe mode twice to remove NIS 2009, then installed 2010.  I left the full scan running for over 3 hours, when I came back it was still on the C: drive at approx. 71,000 files.  In that same amount of time, NIS 2009 will have scanned my entire system (4 drives, 2-500GB and 2-250GB), somewhere over 500,000 files I think.

I also posted the last time that when I start the scan, I logoff the system and leave the scan running.  When I got back to it 3+ hrs later, and entered my passworw to log back on, it took well over a minute for the desktop to appear.  When it did the NIS window still showed the welcome screen instead of the NIS controls, and took well over a minute to be restored to proper appearance.  The same type of delays were experienced when clicking the buttons to stop the scan, finish etc.

These steps are the same I've followed with NIS 2009 and never had a problem.  I should mention that given my last experience a few weeks ago, I turned off the insight virus setting and the idle optimizer setting to see if that would speed it up, it didn't.

There's no way I can use the 2010 version of NIS with this type of performance.  I'm both puzzled and disappointed with this situation, but I don't know what to do about it.
