Hello All,
Periodically my computer indicates that Norton is doing some CPU intensive activity that never shows up on the history or tasks records. It does this mystery activity for well over an hour as you can see in the attached image. The activity is also very constant. It uses the harddrive in a repetitive manner that is unlike anything else I have ever seen. Literally the hdd activity light goes on and off in a regular pattern. Most of the spikes you see on the performance chart are the result of me actually opening Norton to see what is going on. Even when I put the computer in standby or restart it, this task resumes as soon as I wake it up or restart my computer. It only happens once or twice a month but my computer usage varies all the time so I have no idea often it occurs. I am also curious as to why there are blank spaces (gaps) in the activity monitor graph.
I have turned off idle time quick scans and the computer is clearly not idle as I am using it to type this message right now while Norton is sucking up 75% of my CPU for the last hour and a half. This is extremely frustrating. I have removed NIS 2010 completely with the removal tool and reinstalled it to no avail. Does anyone know what is happening? Is it a virus? I don't know where I would have gotten one from but if I did how could I tell if that is what is causing it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit on an HP Mini110
