I'm new to this product, and normally keep Process Explorer minimized on the tray, so it wasn't long before I noticed this type of activity happening 3-4-5 times an hour for 2-3-4 minutes at a time:
This certainly wasn't happening before NIS. A further clue might lie in what comprises that particular svchost.exe process, which bounces between 20% and 35% for the duration of the spike:
DHCP Client
HomeGroup Provider
Security Center
TCP/IP NetBIOS
Windows Audio
Windows Event Log
I think the prime suspect there is Security Center, which has obvious ties with NIS. The svchost.exe process has accumulated nearly an hour of CPU time, and I've only had NIS installed for 12 hours (I rebooted afterwards, so it started at zero). That's about 15 minutes more than even the main ccSvcHst.exe.
So is anyone else seeing this behavior and is it expected? I have Pulse updates disabled, mail scanning disabled, as well as Idle scanning and Idle Optimization, so I can't imagine what NIS is doing. Anything else to try disabling? View Recent History does not show any events coinciding with these incidents besides the constant firewall chatter.
