@I am not familiar with your D-Link or your setup...the device appears to be a highend modem/router combo.
Thanks for responding again bjm.
I am somewhat familar with Networks. Sorry I've checked up my Router info using http in my browser, NAT is enabled but Firewall is disabled. Here is the info (minus the data) in brief from the Advance config menu:
Routing NAT QoS VLAN ADSL Firewall
Enabled Activated Deactivated Activated Auto Syn-Up Disabled (and SPI too).
Yes my device is something similar to what you shared in that D-link URL. This is a D-Link ADSL2+ Router supports max 3 machines (1 eth0 + 2 WLAN).
I would call my ISP and take their suggestion. I don't think I enabled Hardware firewall even when I was using KIS 2010 trial (till its expiry).
Portscans like Shields Up get no farther than your NAT router, which does not pass this traffic through to your computer and software firewall on the Local Network. Therefore the GRC results correspond to your router and not the Norton Firewall. This is a function of NAT and is true regardless of how the router's firewall is set.
If something is Blocked by Intrusion Prevention, and you have "Notifications" on, then Norton will display a pop-up notification.
Glad to see you got N.I.S. 2010 installed. If you get any problems, or just wish to ask a question, you know where we are 24/7; we'll be happy to assist you in any way we can.
I've installed NIS 2010 on the three machines, working like charm. I love the NIS 2010 being low on system resources.
I would request you guys to share if there is any quick NIS 2010 custom guide URL or PDF (to make my firewall foolproof and of course to save my time on these 3 machines). Let it be even a 3rd party source, like say Techrepublic papers etc.
The default settings with Automatic Program Control turned on will give you all the security you need from the firewall. Custom settings are rarely needed and should be used only if specific issues arise with your internet connection when running programs that Norton does not recognize. This is usually never necessary. The real danger is that tweaking the firewall settings may open ports that are not needed, thereby creating holes in your protection. You really can trust the firewall to do its job without having to meddle with its configuation in any way.
Reading the Norton product reviews at PCMag.com will give you a very good feel for the program. Neil J. Rubenking does a very thorough job of exploring and explaining all of the features

What I do is browse through the HELP within NIS -- it's very complete. You can scan via the Contents list, expanding topics you want to learn more about but also very helpful is to click on the Index Tab and either scan down the keywords listed alphabetically or enter a word in the search box on that tab That scans down the key word list but it does not dig down into the subtopics so for example you can't find spam or antispam that way since it is a subtopic of email ....
But on the Search TAB you can put in spam and it will give you a long list of topics that you can click on even if the word is within the text.
You can also get context help by clicking on a (?) against something in the screens of the program configure / settings screens or against an i on the main screen.
