What up with this, it just started? I checked my event viewer in windows and it shows this failure and tries to start, fail, then start, fail, then start. The main thing is I can not get on the internet. I can get my outlook email and access to other machines on the network, just no internet. Something very strange and it started sort of all of the sudden I think. I went back a few days in event viewer and I do see that error a lot but I don't really remember this much trouble with the internet, at least that a reboot would not fix. Now nothing, no internet.
Next funny thing is I go into services and see the 'Symantec network proxy service ' is set for auto start and is started, supposedly. I can turn off the service, stop it and then I can get on the internet. So what does this service do, and Why all of a sudden is it causing this problem?
My system:
Vista ultimate 64bit
NIS 2010 17.0.0.136
plenty of ram, cpu, psu, hdd, etc...this is not the problem
Next thing is windows did and update last night, nothing that seems like it would cause any of this, and I also cannot roll back because I think I have my NIS protected? On XP with the old NIS if I had it in protect nis software then my system restore did not work, with 2010 who knows? Why must things be so darn complicated?
I tried to use the Symantec tech support online chat and it was useless. I searched internet and could not really find this problem where it was ever documented as fixed.
Some help would be appreciated. Thanks
