I have the same error, but if you just don't close the NIS window when it pops up, you can simply resume the full-screen app :). Annoying, yes, but not the end of the world ;)
I am not so sure it is related to the patch itself. I have had the patch for quite a few weeks now and the issue just started in the last week for me. I will play a game, and when it exits out of full screen Norton will be open on the desktop, and I will have to close it. The icon in the lower right will show it's in silent mode. It doesn't happen with videos or WMP in full screen. Just with games. So far it hasn't interferred with my gaming experience, I would find it really annoying if it did.
I dunno why it's happening. *Shrugs*
But it doesn't bother me much, I have a well honed clicking finger that can't sit still anyway.
Same for me. When I exit a game, NIS is on my taskbar and i have to close it . It.s annoying .
It's very annoying, for some game, even if i don't close the NIS windows, i can't switch back to the game, it keep switching back to desktop. Anyone know how to fixx, please.
Same here -FULL SCREE BUG- i think i will dump NIS if this bug isn't fix......
OS: Windows XP - 32bit
NIS 2010 v17.5.0.127
Thanks ...and FIX THIS!
Hello, exactly the same problem here with NAV 2010 after 17.5.0.127 update. Seems that this problem is related with screen resolution change, when is screen resolution changed (from lower to higher, higher to lower, manually or from game) then NAV UI icon appears in the taskbar and must be closed manually. Windows XP,SP3 and latest Nvidia driver here.
… I think i will remove it…

The bug has come back for me as well. It does appear that if you re-boot a couple of times in a row, it fixes itself - but only for as long as the computer then stays on,
So when will this be fixed? It really annoys me ;(
Hi all,
I have noticed this on my laptop, but for me at least it also seems to happen when I put the lid down and open it back up again, i.e. putting it into sleep mode. Once resuming from sleep mode, there it is on the taskbar.
Has this thread be flagged up for Norton staff to read and give us answers as to when this is likely to be looked into or fixed?
Thanks
Ninko
P.S. Laptop is running Windows Vista 32 bit SP 2 with NIS 2010 17.5.0.127
Hi,
While i'm playing FIFA the Norton Window pop up and it switches to desktop ...
Silent mode and program exclusions already tried, they don't help at all.
Latest version already installed !
Thanks in advance.
Hi dallas_maverick,
This is a bug related to version 17.5; you can read more over here in this thread:
Thanks mate, as I understood there is no fix for this yet ? no possible way to avoid it ? please keep me updated when you release the next version with an appropriate patch for this issue.
Best regards,
John
To my knowledge, there is currently no fix for this issue as yet. I have asked a moderator to merge your thread with the one I have indicated above, since it addresses the same problem :-)
So will anyone from symantec answer? 1. Are you working on this? 2. When will this be fixed? 3. Will it be a hotfix or will you wait until you gona release the next patch? If this is not going to be fixed soon, then i will use another av until a fix for this is released… I hope you fix it soon, i have not any other problems wih NIS! Thanks!

1. Yes
2. Unknown
3. Unknown
We have a reproducible case in-house that is currently being researched. Until the problem is understood we can't know how long it will take to fix and verify that this problem has been corrected. Deployment of the fix also depends upon the nature of the change required so, again, we can't know that until the problem is understood.
I'm sorry that there isn't more information available but this is what I have. There appear to be many people affected by this and people are trying to get this resolved as quickly as possible while ensuring that new issues aren't introduced.
Hi there,
Any update on when this is likely to be fixed?
Thanks
Ninko
I am also experiencing this bug and it is annoying me to death...
The game I am having most problems with is Warcraft III: The frozen throne. It is almost impossible to tab-in to the game as NIS makes it tab out to windows almost instantly all the time, I have tried to set the desktop resolution in windows to the same that I have in-game in WC3, which is 1280x1024 @ 75hz but even if I change my desktop resolution to the exact same as in-game I still get this problem.
One game I don't experiencing tabbing out is Oblivion which I run at 1680x1050 which also is my native and desktop resolution. Seems like a very odd thing but could it be games running in the resolution 1280x1024 and/or 75hz as refresh rate? Can anybody else confirm that they have this problem with any other resolutions/refresh rates?
Also one other thing that bothers me which I am not sure it has to do with the Full-Screen bug or not is that I get very short but LARGE FPS drops in-game (Duration 1 second, happens only once in an hour or something) and I do get the feeling that NIS has made a live update or something in the background. These large FPS drops I get in games that my computer never stutters in as CS 1.6 and WC3, which leads me to believe that NIS does something in the background while it shouldn't as it is in quiet mode.
I really hope Symantec can fix this as this is ruining what have otherwise been a very very good AV suite experience.
