HP Pavilion dm1, Windows 7 64-bit, NIS 2011 (18.5.0.125).
NIS used to work, but a some point stopped. Here's the current situation:
1. The NIS icon in the system tray has disappeared.
2. Attempting to start NIS by clicking a desktop icon or a start menu item fails. The cursor egg timer goes on for a few seconds and then goes off. No abend, no BSOD, no error message, just nothing happens.
3. Attempting to run LiveUpdate produces same results: no errors, but nothing happens.
4. Attempting to uninstall NIS through Control Panel/Programs and Features does nothing. Once again, no errors or error messages, just nothing happens.
5. Action Center reports that "Norton Internet Security reports that it is turned off," but clicking "Turn on now" does nothing.
I though about running the Norton Removal Tool, but this, I presume, won't decrement my license usage by 1 and will leave Symantec thinking that the product is still in use on this computer, forcing me to buy another license. Is this correct?
Basically I've got NIS 2011 installed on the computer but it's doing nothing, won't start, won't do anything to demonstrate that it's alive, and won't uninstall.
Ideas, anyone?
