NIS 2011 Live Update Broken! Stuck in endless loop of updating and re-start requests

Hi all.., having heaps of problems with NIS Live Update feature. I first became aware of the problem about 4-5 days ago when a NIS pop-up box asked me to re-start my PC so that an update could be applied. (see image below)! I did as requested and thought nothing more about it.

The following day the same pop-up appeared again! As before I re-started my machine & kept my fingers crossed all would go well this time around. Everything seemed OK, that is until the following day when the message appeared yet again.., how bl**dy annoying is that?!!

Now I started to think that all was not well and so I tried running the NIS Live Update feature myself, this yielded exactly the same results! Live Update would download updates and correctly apply them but each time it asked for a computer re-start. I have now done this 20 or so times and each time Live Update is run it downloads exactly the same updates but fails to recognize that the system has been restarted!

Yesterday I spent well over an hour with tech support and they seemed completely clueless to say the least! What a waste of my time that was. Come to think of it, I have never had any success with tech support, they seem to mean well but really they seem to lack any technical ability. The guy who tried to assist me yesterday deleted a whole bunch of files from various locations on my machine (he didn't ask if this was OK)! He then disabled 'Product Tamper Protection' and then applied 'i32 Intelligent Updater Package'. After a further 10 or so re-starts and failed updates he gave up and promised me a call back from his supervisor today at 3 pm. Needless to say this never happened! Thank you tech support, - way to go! :smileymad:

From what I have read about similar problems in the forums it seemed as though my only real option would be to re-install NIS 2011.., trouble is I also use Norton Ghost and running the Norton removal tool will un-install both! Something I want to avoid if possible. I have however tried restoring my machine using ghost backup dated 18-08-11 and as soon as I started updating with NIS Live Update the problem returned.

Looking at the NIS Live Update Summary it appears as though one particular update is causing this issue:;

!!'NIS Product Update'!!

Additionally, if I try to re-run the NIS Live Update before having re-started my machine I get the following boxes appear:

It does appear from my own searches that this is a new problem with NIS 2011, although the above error code can be found on the Norton 360 Forum which relates to a problem with Live Updates and an inability to send emails using Outlook Express.

Note! I have no problems with Outlook Express or sending my own emails.

Hoping to have better success with you forum guys! ;o) (you've not let me down yet)! ;o)
