Hi
I'm seeing occasional (every couple of weeks) crashes of Symantec Service Framework (ccsvchst.exe). No error message, just notice the taskbar icon has disappeared. Doesn't seem to be associated with any other particular NIS activity (eg scans or updates)
Latest crash shows this in the Windows event log:
Faulting application name: ccSvcHst.exe, version: 10.1.1.16, time stamp: 0x4daa1893
Faulting module name: AVPAPP32.DLL, version: 18.7.2.3, time stamp: 0x4fd13ded
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x000172cf
Faulting process id: 0x538
Faulting application start time: 0x01cd842b621fc814
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Internet Security\Engine\18.7.2.3\ccSvcHst.exe
Faulting module path: C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\NORTON INTERNET SECURITY\ENGINE\18.7.2.3\AVPAPP32.DLL
Report Id: 568be2e8-f065-11e1-b2f1-e06995b7c384
I notice there are numerous other posts about this, so here are a couple of questions:
Does this crash merely affect the UI, ie is the system still protected? If so, I can live with the occasional fault. I don't want to get into the whole remove NIS, NRT, reinstall NIS routine if I don't have to.
I recently discovered the Norton desktop gadget. Does this still show the Norton status (eg Secured) even if ccsvchst has died?
Is NIS 2012 likely to be more reliable regarding these faults? Is so, I'll do the free upgrade.
Any comments welcome. Thanks.
Ian.
