NIS 2011 Power Eraser

First use of NPE w/rootkit scan yielded the file "eraserutildrvi.sys" which was shown in red as "BAD".  It was located under a Norton subfolder. Did not try to "fix" it.  A 2nd same run resulted in NPE halting with an unspecified error.  Reported error message thru Norton Help.  Several days later made another run which ran successfully without finding any problem.

Again ran NPE w/rootkit scan and received an error message which appeared to be the same one mentioned above.  Again reported error message thru Norton Help.  Note that NPE w/o rootkit scan worked OK.

Is the above mentioned system file a real Norton file?  Why does NPE continue to produce an error every other time it's run?

A1. eraserutilrebootdrv.sys is a real Norton file. To fully answer your question I think you would need to check the spelling of the file in question and post details of all Symantec products installed. You should be able to examine the log file of NPE and advise the exact Norton subfolder in question.

A2. I cant answer that since typically it doesnt but clearly does on your system. The log file might assist

Why does Power Eraser crash on my system?  Running Vista Home Premium on Dell XPS 410.

Is your machine infected?  Is there a reason to run Power Eraser?

Is my machine infected?  That's what I'm  trying to find out.  Isn't that what Power Eraser is supposed to do?  The fact that it crashes may be because of some infection.  Is there a reason to run Power Eraser?  Yes there is.  Suspicion.  There's a problem somewhere.  YOU have provided no solution.  Until you can respond with a solution, just stay away from my posts.
