Hello dubnation
Welcome to the Norton Community Forum
Sorry to hear about your problem. How did you do the upgrade? Do you have any other real time security programs installed now? What version of NIS 2011 do you have now? Thanks.
I received a message that a new version was available so I allowed it. i have the McAfee Security Scan Plus installed it's just a scanner i have the NIS version 18.5.0.125 installed now.
Hello dubnation
There might be a conflict with this McAfee Security Scan Plus. Also, I would recommend that you go back to the 18.1 version since there have been problems with the 18.5 version. Please remove Norton NIS 2011 via the control panel method and then reboot. You can get the 18.1 version from this link.
http://www.norton.com/nis11
Please run live update until no more updates and then reboot.
You will not receive the 18.5 patch as it has been pulled for now.
Please come back and let us know if this helps fix your problem. Thanks.
the 18.1 version works I 'm able to access settings thanks. What's the difference between the two version am I missing out on more security options by going with the 18.1 version?
Hello dubnation
The 18.5 patch turned out to give a bunch of people problems with their computers. So they pulled that patch to find out what the problem was by getting logs from people who were having problems. They are now analyzing those logs and are working to fix that patch. The next patch will be released once it has been fully tested. I don't know if it will still be patch 18.5 or another number. When the patch is released again, there will be a description of what the patch is going to do.
I'm glad that you got it to work ok now. Once the new patch is ready, you will wee notices about it. If you consider your problem to be solved now, will you please mark the thread that gave you the solution so that others will know that it has been solved and will be able to find the solution quickly. Thanks.
Hello,
I have for a few months now NAV 2011 and untill this weekend no real problems with this program. Now for the moment is it an other story. The update which included a new version of NAV ( 18.5.0.125) has the error: 3005,100. With this error on board is the 'settings' tab not available.
Regards,
Kevin z.

Hello Kevin
You do not have to follow all those steps listed in the thread that bjm_ listed. That person had NIS 2011 and included instructions for manually backing up your identity safe. Since you are not running NIS, you do not have to do all of that. I would still say to uninstall and reinstall NAV 2011 however.
Please download and save NAV 2011 from here.
http://www.norton.com/nav11
Please download and save the Norton Removal Tool
You can download the Norton Removal tool from
http://www.symantec.com/symnrt
Please pick the proper Norton product that you want to remove. Also please be aware that it will remove all Norton products, so back up Identity Safe using the program to back that up. Also please have your product key handy.
Thank you Allen for new link
Please get your key from www.mynortonaccount.com
Please remove NAV 2011 using the control panel method and reboot and stay off the net now for computer safety.
Please run the Norton Removal Tool 2 times with a reboot after each run of it.
Then run the install for NAV 2011 and get back on the net. It should pick up your key, but if it doesn't, you can enter it. Please remember to run live update until it says no more updates and reboot when it says to reboot. After you have all the updates, the I would reboot once more.
Please come back and let us know how you made out. Thanks.
Hi,
I encountered the same problem of "dubnation" and I'm pleased to say that your support helped me to solve it.
I just have one question:
because the link to download the version 1.18 of NIS11 you gave only gives the installer in English, where can I find that in Italian? I just can't find it ...
Thanks in advance and sorry for my unprofessional English
Hello Flaviolik
I think this link should give you NIS 2011 in Italian
http://www.symantec.com/redirects/norton/norton_com/it/nis11/
Hope this helps,
Please let us know when you come back. Thanks
I have NIS 18.1.037 and i have the same issue. After updating, the settings tab does not work. I have also tried the latest versions and some other versions but the problem is the same. I do not have any other antivirus on my laptop. What do i do? when just installed and before updating, the settings work fine but after that it says error 3005, 100. please help?
Hi Heetesh,
Please follow Floplot's procedure located earlier in the thread, here.
Please let us know how it goes.
Best wishes.
Allen
Hi,
Have you all tried the solution in the following KB?
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100910115402EN
If that does not work, please try Flo's suggestion.
Thanks!

Hello,
I just wanted to ask that after installing the NIS 18.5.0.125 removal patch, will the updater ignore this update next time? I mean to say that whether the updater will install 18.5.0.12 patch again after its removal as I am facing the same error messages and cannot edit any settings.
Thank You
Chinmay
