NIS 2011 Still Updated to 18.5 When Automatic Download of New Versions is Disabled

I have the Automatic Download of New Versions option disabled on my computer (Settings | Miscellaneous Settings | Download of New Versions | OFF) and was surprised to see that the NIS v. 18. 5.0.125  update was still delivered this morning when I ran a manual LiveUpdate (a 27 MB download that took over an hour on my dial-up connection).   Automatic LiveUpdates are also disabled on my computer so I always runs LiveUpdates manually.  I had v. NIS 18.1.0.37 until this update was delivered.

Is this a NIS 2011 bug, or is it just the major upgrades (e.g., from NIS 2010 to 2011) that aren't delivered if Automatic Download of New Versions option disabled?  When possible, I always download all my larger (> 10 MB) updates over a public WiFi connection.

MS Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 (32-bit) * IE 8 * NIS 2011 v. 18.5.0.125 * NU v. 14.5.0.120
HP Pavilion dv6835ca, Intel Core2Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83 GHz, 3.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS

Automatic Download of New Version downloads only the major versions available. For eg: Update from 2011 to 2012. I do not think disabling this option stops the update to the 18.5 patch.

Hi Vineeth:

In that case, perhaps Symantec should change their GUI and and Help files to read "Automatic Download of Upgrades", not "Automatic Download of New Versions".

This sounds like another one of those "gimmick" configurations settings like Smart Definitions (see bcg99's post here) that's supposedly intended for customers with slow Internet connections but doesn't work the way it's described.
