Hello,
I found this issue with NIS 2011.
If I use hibernation instead turning off my computer NIS wakes up computer every day at night / in the morning.
The problem is in a planned task called Norton Error Analyzer 18.1.0.37 which I can't get rid of.
If I change it or block it NIS 2011 just creates it again.
Is there any solution?

Hi Vineeth, thanks for your time. I installed the SymNRA tool but I don’t understand how it can help me. I don’t know about any NIS errors bothering me. The only problem I have is waking up computer from hibernated state to send the reports. If NIS sent the error logs automatically after user log on or on NIS startup I see no problem in it. Do you think there is any solution to change the behavior of NIS in terms of cancelling the planned task in taskschd.msc?
Hi operalover,
The SymNRA tool collects the debug logs. Once we have the Debug logs, the concerned team can check and determine what or which component is causing the problem. So we need to enable the tool and reproduce the problem.
We have two more users reported the problem here:
http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Norton-Internet-Security-2011-18-1-0-37-XP-Bug/td-p/296500
Please follow the instructions in my last post to collect the log files.
Vineeth
I am sorry but I don’t think it is related to the issue in the thread you suggested. My problem is not a bug, it’s more of a feature. The computer wake up is triggered by a scheduled task which you can find in %windir%\system32\taskschd.msc /s You can look at this task here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/82353/norton.png (GUI language is Czech). I tried to delete this task (which would solve the problem) but it is automatically recreated later - probably cause by some kind of auto-protection of NIS. The solution would be to run this task not “as planned” but may be after user log on, or something like that. As to SymNRA - I run it but I don’t know what I should log - NIS doesn’t cause any problem on its own. Thanks in advance for you help!
Do you have any ideas how to continue?
What operating system are you running on? I just inspected the two scheduled items for Symantec on my Win 7 64-bit system and neither has the option to wake the computer enabled. If your system does then maybe the settings got damaged and you need to uninstall and reinstall the product.
I have the same one (Windows 7 64-bit). I would give it a try but I am not sure what happens with the trial subscription after I reinstall. I need to sort it out before I decide on buying it or not (this “bug” is a big problem for me)… I tried to delete the task and after some time the task is recreated again. I also don’t have the option wake the computer enabled. So I tried to check it and save it and uncheck it again and will wait if it wakes up tomorrow. I will report it. Thanks for your help!
Uninstalling and reinstalling shouldn't affect the remaining time on your trial.
Since the option to wake wasn't selected, why do you think that it is one of the Symantec scheduled tasks? My first thought when I see computers waking from sleep or hibernation is that their Wake on Lan settings have been enabled. You may wish to look at Microsoft's Power Management for Network Devices in Windows 7 document.
I found out its NIS from the event viewer. However, I searched that into the detail and found out the problem is not limited to NIS task. I don’t know why but my pc doesn’t respect the settings of waking from hibernation, even after I have set the Power Management / Advanced / Allow wake on timers to Disabled. I even tried to search for this value in registry - “bd3b718a-0680-4d9d-8ab2-e1d2b4ac806d” and turn the waking on timers off (to 0) manually but with no success. I am not sure what to do next (windows reinstall is not a way now). As NIS Error Processor is currently the only app causing problems, do you think there is any (unofficial) way how to turn the task off? I tried to delete it but it was created again later. Now I tried to delete the "conditions for activation of the task / date, time settings) and also set the task in windows/system32/tasks to read only. Do you think it helps or there are other ways how to prevent the event from running? Otherwise, Thanks for great support and have a nice day. Operalover.
This sounds even more like a Wake on Lan setting issue. Have you disabled Wake On Lan per the article I previously referenced? Since you indicate that the operating system isn't respecting the settings for other tasks you may have to contact Microsoft for further assistance.
