I think he is. I could comfort him that I'm stuck even deeper in the past, Re: the issue I raised in a thread nearby .
Mine says it's in 29. 8.

Hi Tim
Yes, it's the activity map right below the Web Protection on the UI.
I guess I should have clarified that better.
I checked my system time and had no errors. Everything is working great so I'm not worried about it. Just something I noticed, that's all.
Can't believe how light it is on the system! Wow. Still can't get my head around it!

If you thought 2010 was light, just wait until you install 2011, that's all I can... errr... say!
For me it's disappointing, the UI is terrible, not much choice other than various shades of black with slight yellow; 2010 was better, it looks cluttered too. The main grumble is the lack of SSL port setting under the email scanning, since my ISP has changed to SSL Norton no longer scans incoming or outgoing mail automatically which is the main reason I've stayed with Norton, if this is no longer a feature & won't be reintegrated in the future then I can see myself going to MSE or my own ISPs Internet Security.
I've also noticed that it still only supports Outlook Express & Outlook, OE is obsolete & has been for years so why is it still listed, I'd like to see WLM added to the list with full anti-spam integration.
Hi DBJr,
If you look at the Activity Map, it's not showing a LIVE feed. It's showing a feed from the past, and is displaying the date and time that the information on the map represents. As you can see, the "time" on the map moves up 15 minutes every 2 seconds.

Hi Doctor9fan,
Email scanning is the closest thing that antivirus programs have to a vestigial tail. Scanning mail as it is received is a carry-over from simpler times that offers little in the way of enhanced protection. Auto-Protect checks every file that is written to disk so any attachment that you open gets examined and you are fully protected anyway. Scanning outgoing messages is even less beneficial since it does nothing at all to protect your PC, but only provides a favor to your recipients who don't run their own antivirus programs. Its a nice thing to do, but not something that is really necessary anymore. I certainly appreciate that you prefer to have email scanning enabled, but, considering the minimal benefits it provides, it is not something that should be your main criteria for choosing an antivirus program. For more on this see the following article:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm
So even though NIS doesn't scan incoming emails anything nasty is still scanned when I click on an attachment in an email rather than having to save it to disk first? That's fine to know if that's the case.
It may be unnecessary to have this feature but many av/is products still have it, also if the email scanner has been removed permanently I can no longer see the point in paying £40 + for a product that we can now get free elsewhere & still have the same features.
Upgraded and all is well. The icon and interface look OK to me.
Good job to team Symantec for this product. Interface looks great and the map is an EXCELLENT addition(even though my city had a high number of threats 4234). Little things like that are great improvements and its great info to know. Things seem a little faster but I havent really tested anything. So far so good though.
1 question: After the upgrade(not from the norton update center) it said last live update was 18 days ago. Does that mean the final was done 18 days ago and its just been handed out to private testers? Just wondering where the 18 days came from
Hopefully I wont get the dreaded Error 1003,11 randomly like I did in 09/10. even though i didnt use the email feature I kept getting the error. So I just turned off the email scan. I'll leave it on now and hope it doesnt show up again

True that you can install free 'seperates' that will provide the same as Norton does but other free products don't integrate all that NIS does into one closely-knit 'quiet' program. I've had lots of free security products installed but prefer to pay for NIS. The reason being that it never asks me any questions as to what I do and don't want to allow. I've been through all that over the years and become fed up with it. So nice to go to something that just sits there quietly doing its job with no interaction required from me.
I'm on my second year of using NIS now. I had a break between the first and second while I tried a few other products. Came back to NIS in the end though. I may well go for a 3rd year when the subscription expires in 249 days time.
well I uninstalled the beta, then reinstalled 2010 then found out I could already upgrade to 2011, and when I tried it, it deleted explorer.exe, so I am pretty pissed with symantec right now.
Frankly, I would not upgrade 2011 at this juncture.......Until when it is official release.
Better to be safe than sorry.
P/S:- I had problems when I upgraded NIS2009 to 2010....the day 2010 was release. ONCE BITTEN TWICE SHY.
Thank you.

Hello ITGraduate05,
Manually run Live Update a few times, that should fix your definitions!
I have system works 12 and it installed BUT tried afterwords to uninstall System Works 12 (basic i just noticed)(concered may be issue) and it will not ininstall!
Just installed NIS2011...seems to be working well.
One thing...it is not compatible to Threatfire....NIS2011 prompted me to uninstall it.
Also, can I know if it is okay to delete NORTON INSTALLATION FILES....I assumed they are really unnecessary.
I have a netbook......with 2GB RAM. Should I install NIS2011 too? It has 2010 now.
Thank you
Great product. Really happy with it. There is only one "but"
I hope for some better 64 bits support.
-Internet Explorer 8 64 bits doesn't have the Norton toolbar + the Safeweb icons in Google
-Microsoft Office/Outlook 2010 doesn't have the Norton Spam support
64 bits is coming up more and more. Only thing that's holding me of is the fact; Adobe Flash doesn't have the 64 bits support for Windows. Only for Linux for now.
Hi Sea_Monster,
If NIS 2010 is working OK on your netboot, you should also be fine with 2011 since it is lighter in resources.
One thing I'd like to clarify from your earlier comment is that NIS 2011 is officially available which is determined by it being integrated into the Norton update center. It does however take a bit more time for it to show up in the online Symantec store front.
I really love NIS 2011, though like others I kind of liked the UI of 2010 a bit better.
Best wishes.

Hi Cell,
I agree with you that 64 bit is up and coming. My experience shows that many vendors are still not ready with native 64 bit apps. I suspect this will change by the time Windows 8 comes out, now that MS has announced there will be no more 32 bit OS's.
NIS 2011 works fine on 64 bit OS but it does not yet support 64 bit IE or 64 bit Outlook. Here again I suspect that will change in time.
Best wishes.

Allen....
I took a BIG FAT risk to install NIS2011....I kept my finger cross, that it will not post any problems, so far so good. I had a lousy experience last year upgrading 2009 to 2010. I could have waited until it is official release in Symentec website....but like all users.... I can't wait.
Any way, you're right, 2011 certainly looks promising....however, it is not compatible to THREATFIRE....which is a surprise, considering Symentec bought PCTOOLS -- makers of THREATFIRE.
Another issue....just found out is that the LIVEUPDATE or PULSE UPDATE, there is no configuration for it.....I thought 2010 had PULSE UPDATE configuration.
Thank you
Hi Sea_Monster,
I guess there's the difference between official and generally available. It is official because it is on the Norton update center but it is not generally available since it is not yet in the online Symantec store.
Regarding configuring Pulse Update, are you referring to the ability to turn it on or off or what? The option to turn it on or off (as well as Live update) is still in Computer settings but you have to scroll down to the bottom to see it.
Best wishes.
