Hello,
NIS 2008 provided a workaround for those of us with machines with limited resources. Specifically, during LiveUpdate, on a machine just barely meeting the minimum required resources, you can't possibly do any work on the machine because the performance is so degraded. The workaround provided by NIS 2008 was to schedule the LiveUpdates at night when you weren't on the machine. This could be done by simply scheduling the LUALL.exe to run at night (I used a batch file). LUALL.exe is the LiveUpdate component of NIS 2008.
NIS2011 has no separate LiveUpdate component, and it appears NO WAY TO SCHEDULE LIVEUPDATE!!! I upgraded 3 machines to NIS2011 expecting at least the same feature set to be supported as NIS2008, and now I'm stuck with 2 machines that I have to manually update to keep my virus definitions current. This is not a reasonable solution, and IMO, Norton should provide some means of scheduling the LiveUpdate (even if it's a workaround using a separate component).
To any Norton employees reading this: I've been a loyal Norton user since about 1989, and this is quite upsetting. If there is some workaround available for NIS 2011 users, please advise. If not, there should be. I am certainly only one of many who have been screwed by the removal of the LiveUpdate scheduling capability.
I hope there is someone out there who can give me some advice with respect to this issue. For God's sake, I just want to run LiveUpdate when there's nobody using the machine. Is that too much to ask?
Sorry if I sound like I'm ranting, but as I said, it's upsetting to have a critical capability removed without any warning, and at this point, I'm not finding any way forward.
Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for any help.
