NIS 2012 and IE 9 64

Hello,

Recently we formatted one of our PC's. Unfortunately it seems the wrong IE 9 shortcut was placed on the start menu, so it was the 64bit version rather than the 32. As the Norton security add-ons only work for the 32 version, none of them would have been working whenever someone opened IE from the start menu.

I am just wondering if this is something we should be worried about with regards possible infections/intrusions etc, or if the add ons are essentially a 'safety net' where NIS itself would still catch anything harmful regardless of whether those add ons were running or not, and the add ons are just an extra layer of security for things already covered by NIS itself?.

Thank you for any advice you can provide.
