NIS 2012 Autofix can't repair installation?!

Hi,

like every day I do a Norton Autofix Scan, today I encountered a small problem...I've just updated to Firefox 7.0. The scan says the following: "Warning. Norton couldn't finish repair, Installation"

But, my NIS is installed since NIS  2012 cames out, without a error since maybe 40 days! How should the NIS installation be broken today, and yesterday everything was good and ok..?

Maybe some of you can help me...thx.

Ah, and here's the Autofix protocol:

Norton Internet Security
19.1.1.3
Errors: 0, 0
Microsoft Windows XP
2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.101209-1647
Results of  Norton AutoFix: 1 element(s)
Installation :: Failed

I am getting the same error, apparently as a result of the Firefox 7 compatibility update.

Yes it is a known issue and we are looking into it right now.

Hi to all,

Same thing here, both computers, one running XP SP3 and the other Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit having the same Norton Autofix message: "We have failed to fix 1 item".

I clicked on the web support button, and one Symantec webpage appeared, indicating that NIS 2012 (19.1.1.3), failed to install.

The solution indicated was to run NTR, I ran it twice with 2 reboots, installed again NIS 2012 on both pc's and guess what: when I ran Norton autofix again, I got the same message.

I should't have uninstall NIS 2012 since the beginning since it was running very smoothly and without a single problem.

Now it is working again, without any problem, but the issue with Norton autofix persists.

Hope it will be resolved.

Am I causing a problem at the installation when I run the Norton autofix tool?

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Regards,

Apostolos,

Tony Weiss has posted a notice explaining that the installation failure report is erroneous and can be disregarded.  A fix is in the works.

i had the same problem since about 2pm CST today norton 2nd level employee supposed to call me back it also happened on 2 different pc's 1 xp pro and the other win 7x64 it was 578 kb 3 of 3 and it asked to restart  i spent 2 hours on phone with tech then he escalated after reinstalling 3- 4 times and more than once i have noticed a rootkit in a norton folder srtsp in this folder"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\SRTSP" you have to have admin priv's and must disable norton self protection to access

I believe that SRTSP is a hidden file, not a root kit.  There is a difference, and many rootkit tools simply present all hidden files that are found so that the user can investigate and make a determination if a listed file is malicious or not.  Many security programs conceal some of their files in rootkit fashion - this is normal.  You should not remove anything without first confirming that it is a threat.

I have the same problem with the NIS 2012 Autofix tool, but I have not upgraded to FF 7: I have FF 6.02 and the same issue.

It's to do with the Firefox 7 compatability update released yesterday (the one requiring a reboot).  It is installed regardless of whether you have Firefox 7 or not (I don't Firefox at all but still received the update)

Hey!

I have the same problem with Norton Autofix

Norton Internet Security 2012 was acting a little strange, so i removed the security program Threatfire from my computer using the program Revo Uninstaller and i restarted my computer and ran Norton Autofix again, and Norton Autofix still says its samething wrong with my NIS 2012, but my NIS 2012 works much better and are fine/ok right now.

I know this is a known issue and i hope it will be resolved soon.

Thanks DarkSta. You're right!

Autofix doesn't work yet.... but the last NIS patch works fine with FF7:

Symantec acknowledged the bug: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Support-Reports-quot-Installation-Failure-quot-after-Firefox-7/td-p/547806

Problem happening with XP too:

Norton Internet Security
19.1.1.3
Error: 0, 0
Microsoft Windows XP
2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.101209-1647
Norton Autofix Results: 1 item(s)

Hi All:

Tony Weiss just pinned a post here in the forum stating that there's a bug in NIS 2012 causing this AutoFix message to appear.  Check the version of your coFFPlgn.dll plugin (Tony provided version numbers for both NIS 2011 and NIS 2012) if you aren't sure if you have the correct FF7-compatible extensions.

Edit:

Sorry, DarkSta.  You must have posted the same info while I was still composing my message.

--------

Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2 * NIS 2011 v. 18.6.0.29 * IE 9.0 * Firefox 6.0.0
HP Pavilion dv6835ca, Intel Core2Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83 GHz, 3.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS

This is not just a Firefox 7 patch-error.

I have Internet Explorer and it´s the same problem on all 6 computers.

Yes, but it's the Firefox patch that introduced the error. You still got the patch with your Norton updates even if you've never had Firefox installed.

no sir i had the problem on 2 different pc's win 7 and  xp with firefox 6 but i now have 7

Unfortunately, even customers who don't run Firefox will see this issue. This patch gets installed on all systems that are running NIS 2012, and since the issue isn't browser-dependant, it will occur regardless of the browser installed.

Update: Issue fixed! Yay!  Good job Symantec for the prompt response. :smileyvery-happy:

Hi all!

Just received a Norton Product update and the issue with support is fixed!  Therefore, run LiveUpdate and recheck the issue.
