NIS 2012 blocking file sharing?

Thanks, but I've already reset the router, and I even replaced the router thinking it could be the issue.  IP addresses are all obtained automatically.

This is interesting. Right now, I AM able to access the computer that NIS shows with the bogus ip address. The other one, with a good ip address, does not show up in Start/Network.

I  think you really need to figure out where that odd IP address is coming from.  As I said previously, it does not look like anything a router would assign on a small LAN.  My impression of the issue is that something is amiss with the assignment of addresses.  I don't think this is a Norton issue.  Norton seems to be just reporting what it is finding (or not finding) on the network.

I'm sorry if I missed this, but backup to SendOfJive's comment on the first page.

Do you have an epson wireless printer?

Do the systems that show 2 IP addresses also have 2 network adapters?

Perhaps they connect to the router with a LAN, giving the normal IP address and also have a wireless adapter that gives the incorrect address.

When you run ipconfig on the other systems, run:  ipconfig /all to show all the adapters on the system.

edit-  If you have a wireless printer, unplug it, reboot the computers and see if the network behaves properly without it.

It seems to be working right now. The only thing I changed was that I mapped the drives I want to access. I've never to needed to do that before, but it seems to be the cure now.

The bogus IP address is still showing up. When I ping it, there is no reply. And the router config page does not show that it ever gave out that IP address.
I've purged the network map, it continues to show up.

And no I do not have any Epson printers.

also sometimes I see two entries (both valid per pinging), with two different IP addresses, for the same computer, even though it only has one network adapter. One of them sometimes says the adapter manufacturer is Apple, even tho there is no apple hardware here. Could iTunes be doing that??
