I have a problem with Identity Safe. The problem started when I installed Firefox 10. At first, the Norton Toolbar was not available for this new addition of Firefox, then after a day or two, at the most, a LiveUpdate fix was generated to give the new Mozilla Firefox 10.0 the Norton Toolbar. I did not like the way IE8 kept "hanging" on its close.
Anyway, to my surprise and chagrin, I found when I opened my Identity Safe, in both IE8 and Firefox, the icons (or Favicons) associated with most of my signons were missing. On my system (Windows XP), only 28 are being generated, starting at the top of the list. As you can see in the image below, the icons stop, right in the middle of a folder!
Well, I called Symantec and after about 2 hours spoke with a nice enough fellow who explained the problem, which most likely was the "fix" or update for Firefox 10 (had to be written quickly).
I told him it was pretty crappy since I actually USE those icons to identify the signon I need. I hate reading each one(I have over 200!), looking for the right signon. He told me, well, the Identity Safe is functional and the icons are shown for those most recently used signons. I told him, well that is fine, but IT IS NOT WHAT I PAID FOR. Why just generate favicons for the top 20 to 60 signons and leave an empty space for the rest? The icons are ALL visible in the Login Edit (see below), so why can't they be available for the login list?
As you can see, they are there, aren't they? So they ARE being generated, aren't they? Again, why not save them for the list of logins, though some are just blue dots, which could signify something I had not signed into for a long while and should be deleted.
He basically told they had to whip up something quick for the Mozilla Firefox fix, so its possible the icons were restricted in that. He indicated there should be about 60 generated before the NIS software stops generation; I get 28.
I told him, for me, this was unacceptable and a fix should be generated. Though he told me there were/are performance issues, I said I don't give a rat's butt about "performance," and it's my computer, at least LET ME DECIDE whether to generate them, or not. That decision should be mine, NOT Symantec's. I also said, if they are NOT going to be gen'd, remove them entirely. Don't just do 28 to 60; blow it off entirely.
Yeah, the Identity Safe IS functional, like a refrigerator with missing shelves. It keeps things cold, but you can't find anything because everything is on one shelf "buried" with something else.
If I were working with Symantec, I never would have let this "half baked cake" be put on the shelves for consumers to have to "eat." If you are going to do something do it right, don't just do it halfway!
I am waiting for my fix!
