Upgraded from NIS 2011. In NIS 2012, scheduled a Full System Scan by
SETTINGS > Computer Scan > Full System Scan > Configure and scheduled for "weekly Saturday at 0823". Click OK
The scan did not start at the scheduled time. Looked in Windows Task Manager, and the scheduled scan is not listed. It was listed when NIS 2011 was used, and it ran at the scheduled time uner NIS 2011.
Did a power off/on reboot, but still nothing in Task Manager. NIS screens show the scan is indeed scheduled.
Unsuccessfully tried to attach a .JPG screen capture of the NIS 2012 settings screen but get "The file does not have a valid extension for an attachmenb. txt log lue are valid extnesions.
On Windows Vista 64, SP 2
Hello namakemono,
I do not use the Norton Scheduler because I find it does not have enough options but I have reported an issue with scheduling a scan entered directly in Windows Task Scheduler but Norton does not seem to have taken note of the problem.
It seems that if a delay is not applied then the task will not run. I set a delay of 30 seconds to run LiveUpdate and a delay of 30 minutes to run a Quick Scan so it works via Windows but whether that is the same problem with the Norton Scheduler I have no idea. Anyway you cannot enter a delay in Norton Scheduler anyway.
Have a look here (Startup Quick Scans giving confusing results) under go to solution.
I suggest you try entering a scan via Windows directly to see if that works before you go any further. If you do that remember to enter /sescan as the parameter if you want it to run in the background.
I hope that helps. Good luck.
Thank you both for the replies.
1. My PC is not on 24/7. I turn it on around 0500 and off at 1600 or 1700. It does not sleep or hibernate during this period, so when the "Saturday at 0823" arrives, the PC is on.
2. I will manually set Windows Task Manager to start the scan. Could you please tell me the .exe to invoke? The only two I see in the Program Files (x86) program are symimi64 and sevntxt4.
3. Following the "how to insert an image thread" I have inserted the screen shot.

You will need to use navw32.exe as the action and then try the /A or /L argument depending on whether you want to scan all drives or local drives. Try a 30 second delay and test it out. I do not know how to combine arguments so that the full scan takes place in the background with /SESCAN. If you need that someone more knowledgeable might be able to help. To run the scan through the Windows Task Schedule you must be logged in to your account for the scan to take place.
This link may help you with the parameters to use in Windows Task Scheduler ...........
Running a scan at the command prompt
I spent a long time on this issue before I finally got it sorted for myself. Hope it works for you.
By the way your screenshot does not show for me. It should have a tiny picture icon next to your post on the summary page if you have got it right.
Thank you.
The Windows Task Scheduler works with that. It does not show the scan screen, nor give any other indication that it is running, but NIS shows that it is running.
The NIS version number is part of the path pointing to navw32.exe. When Norton Live Update inserts a new version, that means that Task Scheduler will fail, since the older version is gone won't it?

Yes, exactly right, you will have to alter the version number but I have seen somewhere that the schedules are updated with a new 'engine' version but I think that was probably for schedules entered from the Norton GUI.
I have AlertBox in Firefox set to tell me when various parts of Norton (forum etc) are updated with that information so I can do it. I need to know because I do not want a new engine applied via LiveUpdate again due to the hassle it gave me with the latest one.
Glad it all worked out, you just have to get the screenshot sorted now.
Kind regards.
Thank you very much for your help. It got me going with the new version. (Google shows a few rants about the change in NIS2012's change in scheduling logic, but your help provides a neet workarond.
I'm puzzled by the non-display of my screen capture. When I signon and access this thread, the capture displays in the "4 of 7" post. That's the one where I attached it. It looks to be embedded in the post rather than being an attachment. It was a .JPG image.
Thank you again for getting me going.

I can see the screen shot in your previous post now. They have to be approved by an admin before they are visible to everyone.
