I purchased and registered NIS 2012 a few weeks ago. It is working great on my home-build WIN7-64 BIT system. I had an email the other day (on the older VISTA BOX - the new one not set up with OUTLOOK mail yet - large archive and PST to copy over), saying that I was eligible for an upgrade to NIS 2013.
I had to run the link on the VISTA box, and download a NIS Updater package, then T/F it and run it on the new WIN7 box.
It DID go through a 5 minute download of about 150MB or so, THEN gave me the impression that it HAD installed and updated NIS 2012. However, there is no REAL evidence I am ACTUALLY running 2013. I can see fomr the version that it is 20.2.0.19, and in the temporary donlad folder, I see a NS EXE package, a symevent.exe (or similar name - not on the box right now) , plus a 2012update.dll and a 2013update.dll (or similar - but these DLL are NOT installed in any product area).
The question is: did the "upgrade" actually take, or is the 20.2.0.19 leve ONLY due to LIVE UPDATE doign its normal work?
I attempted to run the <Long-name-F1234etc->NISupdate.exe out of the download/upgrade folder, and it gave a large "do you want to uninstall your NIS product" screen - so I bailed out of that - in case that is all it did!! Anyone else had similar experiences, and can anyone confirm that Version 20.2.0.19 = NIS 2013?? Thanks, ARD1947.
If you open the main page of NIS 2013 - you'll see 4 Squares - and no Activity Map at the bottom.
If you open NIS 2012 to the main page - you'll see what you have been used to seeing with NIS 2012 - the same as what is probably still on your Vista system.
If you have NIS 2012 installed you can do an over the top install of NIS 2013. It will remove NIS 2012, install NIS 2013 and by going over the top - you will retain your Local Vault also.
As I am not sure what you have copied over from the Vista system - pleae try the following:
I would suggest right clicking on the Norton Icon in your System tray and select Check for New Version. You can also get to that option via you Start Menu (hover over NIS and it will appear in the drop down). Or you can click on Support on the main page of NIS and then select that option from the dropdown.
To confirm whether you have the latest product, as Yank said,
Launch norton product, Goto 'Support' link (top right corner), Choose 'About'. It will have the product version.
If it is 20.X.X.X you have NIS 2013, If it is 19.X.X.X you have NIS 2012.

Only when you have that version currently installed, On launch of setup again it will ask you whether you want to uninstall your Norton product.
