NIS 2012 using 400MB Ram?

Been using NIS for years. Recently moved from NIS 2011 to 2012 on a Win XP SP3 laptop. Prior to installing 2012, I used the Norton removal tool to uninstall 2011.

With no NIS installed the computer after reboot idles using about 305-307 MB of RAM. After I installed NIS 2012, following reboot, system idles at about 700 MB RAM usage. Does this sound right?

Task manager does not show any one process using a huge amount, and NIS's performance utility only shows a small amount of RAM usage due to NIS. But I can't believe TM is making this up. What am I missing here? Where is the RAM going with NIS?
